Is it me or have there been some really shitty video game adapted movies.  For the exception of the Lara Croft: Tomb Raider featuring Angelina Jolie and the Resident Evil film series (more of a guilty pleasure and a devoted fan of Milla Jovovich) most video game adapted movies suck.  Having said that, movies based on video games is something many gamers are interested in seeing.  In this case, Metroid.  Metroid isn’t a series I’ve really gotten into (for the exception of the Super Smash Bros. series) but I must admit that the story does intrigue me and that I would be interested in watching a live adaptation.

Welcome to the 1st episode of Casting Choices. Casting Choices is all about picking a character and coming up with 4 actors or actresses who can play the role. Or picking a actor or actress and coming up with 4 characters they can play. For the very first episode we’re taking a look at the famous bounty hunter Samus Aran. In today’s 4 we’re looking at Laura Vandervoort, Kristanna Loken, Emily VanCamp, and Charlize Theron.

Samus Aran is an ex-soldier of the Galactic Federation who became a galactic bounty hunter, usually fitted with a powered exoskeleton that is equipped with weapons such as directed-energy weapons and missiles. Throughout the series, she executes missions given to her by the Galactic Federation while hunting the antagonistic Space Pirates and their leader Ridley, along with the parasitic energy-draining organisms called Metroids.

Charlize Theron

She has definitely built up some credit as a great action heroine as well as an all around tough woman.  She’s played a lot of strong female leads; Aeon in Aeon Flux (2005), Furiosa in Mad Max: Fury Road (2015), Anna in A Million Ways to Die in the West (2014), and Mary in Hancock (2008).   This would definitely be a role fit for her.

Kristanna Loken

Now, this is an actress whom I’ve hated the majority of her movies but it isn’t because she’s a bad actress.  They were just terrible movies.  However, she displayed that she doesn’t mind physical work and she’s played some pretty strong female characters (the best being the T-X in Terminator: Rise of the Machines).  If the film is put into production Loken would definitely be a good choice.

Emily VanCamp

VanCamp has shown herself to be quite a diverse actress, her more prominent roles being Sharon Carter / Agent 13 in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Emily Thorne / Amanda Clarke in the serial drama Revenge.  These two roles alone make her worthy as a casting choice for the legendary bounty hunter.

Laura Vandervoort

I like Laura Vandervoort because she can play both a soft, vulnerable role and turn around a play a kickass role.  She was great in Smallville as Kara, Supergirl as Indigo / Brainiac, and in Bitten as Elena Michaels.  She’s shown herself to play superpowered beings fairly well.  Her being a bounty hunter in space with a highly advanced exoskeleton suit wouldn’t be too far of a stretch.
