Resident Evil is a science fiction horror franchises that focuses on the illegal experiments of a corrupt organization called Umbrella, and the deadly viruses and monsters derived from those experiments. Throughout the series, various heroes rise up to fight Umbrella and various villains associated with the virus. One of my all-time favorite horror series. We’re going to rank the books and we’re using our favorite 5-to-1 ranking system, 5 being the best and 1 being the worst.

5-Star Ranking – Best of the Best

Rating: 5 out of 5.
  • City of the Dead (Resident Evil #3) by S.D. Perry (1999). Leon Kennedy, a rookie cop on a new assignment, and Claire Redfield, sister of the still-missing S.T.A.R.S. member Chris, arrive at Raccoon City to discover a horrifying viral outbreak, transforming the city’s population into the living dead.
  • Nemesis (Resident Evil #5) by S.D. Perry (2000). The plot follows Jill Valentine who struggles to survive in a plague-ridden Raccoon City while evading the relentless B.O.W., Nemesis.

4-Star Ranking – Top 10 Worthy

Rating: 4 out of 5.
  • The Umbrella Conspiracy (Resident Evil #1) by S.D. Perry (1998). The story follows members of Alpha S.T.A.R.S. (Special Tactics And Rescue Squad) team in Raccoon City, whose search for Bravo Team leads them to the Spencer estate where they find horrors that defy imagination.
  • Resident Evil: Retribution – The Official Movie Novelization by John Shirley (2012). The story focuses on Alice and her attempts to escape from an underwater facility used for testing the T-virus after she’s captured by the Umbrella Corporation.
  • Zero Hour (Resident Evil #0) by S.D. Perry (2004)Sent to investigate a series of grisly murders in Racoon City, S.T.A.R.S Bravo Team scrambles into action. Following a helicopter crash, the team stumble across a gruesome sight: an overturned military transport truck riddled with corpses – and that’s only the beginning of their nightmare.

3-Star Ranking – Entertaining Read

Rating: 3 out of 5.
  • Resident Evil: Extinction by Keith R.A. DeCandido (2007). Alice and other survivors are cutting through the wastelands of the United States on a long trek to Alaska while being hunted by the minions of the scheming Dr. Isaacs as well as zombies hungry for her flesh.
  • Code: Veronica (Resident Evil #6) by S.D. Perry (2001)The story follows Claire Redfield who searches for her brother Chris, who gets kidnapped and sent to Rockfort Island, where a mad scientist has unleashed the T-virus.

2-Star Ranking – Could’ve Been Better

Rating: 2 out of 5.
  • Caliban Cove (Resident Evil #2) by S.D. Perry (1998). The story follows Rebecca Chambers and former members of S.T.A.R.S. who travel to Caliban Cove to stop a madman from unleashing a new virus upon the world.
  • Underworld (Resident Evil #4) by S.D. Perry (1999). Can Leon Kennedy, Claire Redfield, Rebecca Chambers, and their friends get past a strike team of corrupt S.T.A.R.S. and survive the genetically engineered horrors as they attempt to stop an Umbrella Corporation facility from going online.
