Lonesome Road | NarikChase Review

The Lonesome Road is the fourth and final add-on for Fallout: New Vegas.

The setting and story is pretty interesting and provides depth to the Mojave setting.  The Courier is sent an invitation by Ulysses, a mysterious man who has a bone to pick with the Courier, to come to the mysterious Divide, a land devastated by nuclear destruction resulting in earthquakes and deadly storms.  Also, there’s an interesting story featuring the origin story of companion ED-E (admittedly one of the best companions in the series). Ulysses is the main antagonist of the add-on and he has an interesting case against the Courier.  Loved the final confrontation between the two and how it can be won by diplomacy or combat. If you really like big expansive open maps, the Lonesome road has it in abundance.  The land is constantly razed by violent storms and earthquakes which feed into the overall desolated feeling of the Divide.  The Divide is a massive map filled with fissures, broken bridges, destroyed buildings, bunkers, cliffs, and caves, thus allowing characters plenty of time to explore for loot, weapons, and armor. Aside from the exploration there are the numerous warheads that the player can find and detonate, which sometimes helps the player progress or gain access to hidden areas.  Also, players can find the upgrades for ED-E and the Red Glare weapon. If you’re looking for new creatures, players might be a bit disappointed.  The newest creatures to appear are the Marked Men and the Tunnelers.  The Tunnelers are underground creatures that the devastation has forced to the surface and are found throughout the underground sections of the map.   Honestly, they are hard to fight 1-on-1 but are devastating in large groups.  The Marked Men are interesting but unremarkable.  They are former NCR and Legion soldiers flayed by the violent storms and transformed into ghouls by the radiation.  They’re pretty cool but it would’ve been great to actually interact with them outside of putting a bullet in them.  But the biggest threats to players are the Deathclaws.  There are a shit ton of Deathclaws and they’re in packs.  I do wish there were creatures other than Deathclaws. Do not come into this add-on with a level less than 20.  There are some robots here and there but these are mostly confined to bunkers and facilities.  You’re going to have a hard day.  All of these enemies are not to be taken likely and will prove challenging as hell. The weapons and armor is definitely a plus in my opinion.  One of the best armors is the Riot Gear which looks fucking badass.  Not only that, each version of the Riot Gear gives players bonuses to their skills.  There are variants to NCR and Legion outfits as well.  There are also a bunch of great weapons most notably the arc welder, shoulder mounted machine guns, and the Red Glare.  Of course, there is a crap ton of other weapons and armor but I’ll let you guys find out. The Verdict: In the end, Lonesome Road is one of the best dlc add-ons of the Fallout series.  Despite the small nitpicks (deathclaws could’ve been switched for another species and the lack of interactions with the Marked Men) there’s a lot to like about it.  The Divide is large and unique, the enemies are challenging as hell, there is a crap ton of great weapons and armor, lots of exploration, and a great story to tell.  Lonesome Road gets 5 out of 5.
