Top 10 TV Shows of 2011

Welcome to another list of the best of 2011, which I might add, has come out with some awesome television shows.  Everything from mystery to the supernatural to science fiction.  As a side note: this list will definitely be updated accordingly.

(1) Breaking Bad (Season 4)

The story picks up right where we left off from the previous season. Gale Boetticher is dead. Walt and Jesse’s life hangs in the balance and at the center of all this lies the ice-cold Gus Fring.

(2) Game of Thrones (Season 1)

Like the novel, the season initially focuses on the family of nobleman Eddard “Ned” Stark, the Warden of the North, who is asked to become the King’s Hand (chief advisor) to his longtime friend, King Robert Baratheon. Ned seeks to find out who murdered his predecessor, Jon Arryn. Meanwhile, in Essos, the exiled Viserys Targaryen, son of the former king, forces his sister Daenerys to marry a Dothraki warlord in exchange for an army to pursue his claim to the Iron Throne.

(3) Alphas (Season 1)

The series follows five people, known as “Alphas”, led by noted neurologist and psychiatrist Lee Rosen (David Strathairn), as they investigate criminal cases involving other suspected Alphas. Rosen and his team operate under the auspices of the Defense Criminal Investigative Service, the criminal investigative arm of the U.S. Department of Defense.

(4) New Girl (Season 1)

Jessica “Jess” Day (Zooey Deschanel) comes home to find her partner cheating on her with another woman. Heartbroken over it, she splits up with him and moves into a loft apartment with three young single men, Schmidt (Max Greenfield), Nick (Jake Johnson) and Coach (Damon Wayans, Jr.) – whom she meets though an Internet ad. The guys try their best to get her out of the apartment and back into the dating life with the help of Jess’ best friend Cece (Hannah Simone).

(5) American Horror Story: Murder House (Season 1)

It centers on the Harmon family: Dr. Ben Harmon, Vivien, and their daughter Violet, who move from Boston to Los Angeles after Vivien has a miscarriage and Ben has an affair. They move into a restored mansion, unaware that the ghosts of its former residents and their victims haunt the house.

(6) The Walking Dead (Season 2)

After leaving Atlanta, Rick and the group are stopped on the highway by a threat unlike anything they have seen before. While searching for someone who has gone missing, the group eventually discovers an isolated farm, where tensions arise among members of the main group, and the mysterious and ignorant inhabitants of the farm, whose secrets and motives are unclear. In the midst of events, Rick and the others try to restore order after a terrible discovery as differences begin to openly erupt between Rick and Shane Walsh (Jon Bernthal).

(7) Doctor Who (Series 6)

The series stars Matt Smith as the eleventh incarnation of the Doctor, an alien Time Lord who travels through time and space in his TARDIS, a spacecraft whose exterior resembles a British police box. Along for the ride are companions, newlyweds Amy Pond and Rory Williams, and River Song, a mysterious woman from the Doctor’s future who is revealed throughout the series to be Amy and Rory’s part-time Lord daughter and the Doctor’s wife.

(8) Once Upon a Time (Season 1)

The series’ first season centers around the Enchanted Forest and Storybrooke, and the Evil Queen’s (Lana Parrilla) plot to destroy everyone’s happiness so she can be the only one with a happy ending.

(9) Raising Hope (Season 2)

James “Jimmy” Chance is a 23-year-old living in the surreal fictional town of Natesville who impregnates a serial killer during a one-night stand. Earning custody of his illegitimate daughter, Hope, after the mother is sentenced to death, Jimmy relies on his unorthodox but well-intentioned family for support in raising her.

(10) Being Human US (Season 1)

Tells the story of Aidan (Sam Witwer) and Josh (Sam Huntington), a vampire and a werewolf respectively, who move into a new apartment only to discover that it is haunted by the ghost of a previous tenant, Sally (Meaghan Rath). Together, the three of them discover that being human is not as easy as it seems.
