Why Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Needs Another Fighting Game?

With all of the old and current fighting games finding themselves coming to the new gen consoles (such as Killer Instinct, Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, Tekken, etc.) as well as newer fighting game franchises popping up (Injustice, Ultimate Ninja Storm, etc.) why not give one of the most prominent comic book teams a chance.

Fighting Mechanics:

Come on, there are many different characters and each should have their own specific fighting style.  With the character specific combos, special attacks, and counter system a TMNT game would benefit greatly if it adopts the Unreal Engine 3.  The game could also adopt some of the mechanics of Mortal Kombat X in which characters have various fighting styles that’s in tune with their abilities. The 2009 Smash Up features a fighting system similar to that of Super Smash Bros.  The game could benefit from a supporting or assist system.

Story:

How many of us can say that we’ve actually played a TMNT video game that’s had a pretty memorable story.  Overhaul the game with a powerful story based campaign with the turtles and the Foot clan going back and forth, featuring stories from the perspectives of the various good guys as well as possibly the bad.  Also, to compensate for the characters the story should be an original one created for the game.  Best story I can think of is the Foot Clan is on the move and the turtles are out to stop them.  However, Shredder gets help from the likes of Baxter Stockman with mutants and a shock twist of Krang appearing in our dimension to take over.

Developer:

I have absolutely no problem with NetherRealm studios picking up the reigns and making a TMNT fighting game. The developer has done a phenomenal job with one comic book game and it would definitely be a treat with this game.  Not to mention the fact that a lot of the characters are highly proficient in martial arts which would make for some interesting combos and others with special abilities. Honestly, the game would probably do good under developers such as Capcom (Street Fighter), Namco (Tekken), Tecmo (Dead or Alive), or Rare (Killer Instinct).

Characters:

Safe to say that the turtles have had a large roster of characters ranging from humans and mutations on Earth, to aliens in outer space, and even inter-dimensional entities. Playable characters should consist of:

  • Leonardo
  • Raphael
  • Michelangelo
  • Donatello
  • Shredder
  • Splinter
  • Karai
  • Casey Jones
  • Krang
  • Bebop
  • Rocksteady
  • April O’Neil

Unlockable characters should consist of:

  • Venus
  • Rat King
  • Miyamoto Usagi
  • Tokka
  • Razhar
  • Dragon Lord
  • Lord Dregg
  • Max Winters/Yaotl
  • Slash
  • Agent Bishop
  • Leatherhead
  • Hun
  • Commander Mozar

Though the most recent fighting game is 2009 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Smash Up the idea of the ninja turtles having their own updated fighting game (especially in league of Street Fighter, Tekken, Killer Instinct, and Mortal Kombat) is highly exciting and would appeal to fans of the franchise.
