First image of Stranger Things’ David Harbour as Hellboy

For all of those worried about David Harbour being cast as the new Hellboy in the upcoming reboot, your fears should be put to rest.  Lionsgate has released a photo of what Harbour looks like as the titular character and he looks promising.  Neil Marshall (best known for directing horror film The Descentalong with various episodes for Game of ThronesWestworld, and Hannibal) will helm the upcoming film, currently titled Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen.

Based on the comic book series by Mike Mignola, Hellboy is about a demon adopted by soldiers during World War II, who helps the government combat supernatural threats.  For those unlucky few who’ve been living under a rock and haven’t seen Ron Perlman as the witty character, you’ve missed out on something truly awesome.  Perlman took on the role of Hellboy in two films, Hellboy in 2004, and a sequel, Hellboy II: The Golden Army in 2008.

Harbour looks just as impressive as Perlman, except for his longer hair, more prominent horn stubs, metallic-like arm, and the scars covering his body, which would seemingly be a reminder of the number of battles that the character has endured.

Guillermo del Toro has been in negotiations to develop a third Hellboy film which has been on the fence for sometime.  However, the confirmation of the Hellboy reboot has put the final nail in the coffin for the third film. The film will also feature Ian McShane as Hellboy’s adoptive father Trevor Bruttenholm, Daniel Dae Kim as Ed Skrein ,and Milla Jovovich as Nimue, the Blood Queen.

Lastly, how will Neil Marshall make his movie standout from del Toro’s.  They’re going for the R rating so the film is going to be dark (Thank God, for them taking off the gloves). So far the build up of this reboot does look quite promising, but only time will tell.
