Tomb Raider: First Official Trailer Review

Tomb Raider has been a legend in the video game world.  The character of Lara Croft has help to pioneer and usher in a new age of strong female characters in video games.  Her legacy has even spread to big screen. Our first attempt as a live action version of the character is 2001’s Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and 2003’s Lara Croft: Tomb Raider – The Cradle of Life in which Angelina Jolie portrayed the character.  She actually did a great job with the role, though the sequel could’ve been better.

I like that they’re going with the reboot version.  The 2013 Tomb Raider game was freaking awesome and brought the heroine back into the fore front.  How much will the movie borrow from the game.  We already see the bow and arrow, clothing, pickax, and the over-the-top action.

I’m definitely behind Alicia Vikander being the new Lara Croft.  She first wowed me in 2014’s Ex Machina as Ava.  She has definitely shown that she can play a more dramatic role such as in 2016’s The Light Between Oceans and a serious thriller such as 2016’s Jason Bourne.

The trailer itself has a face paced awesome feel.  Looks like there’s going to be a lot of action.  I hope the tomb raiding and survival elements are just as fleshed out.  The does seem pretty generic but maybe there’ll be more to it.

The film is directed by roar Uthaug who directed 2012’s Escape.  Got some fan favorites cast for the movie.  Of course, Vikander will play Croft.  But also featured are Walton Goggins (The Hateful Eight), Nick Frost (Shaun of the Dead), Hannah John-Kamen (Killjoys), Dominic West (300), and Daniel Wu (Into the Badlands).
