Jeepers Creepers: Reborn Review | 31 Days of Halloween 2022

Jeepers Creepers: Reborn is a 2022 supernatural horror film directed by Timo Vuorensola, starring Sydney Craven, Imran Adams, Dee Wallace, and Gary Graham. Forced to travel with her boyfriend, Laine begins to experience premonitions associated with the urban myth of The Creeper. She believes that something supernatural has been summoned – and that she is at the center of it all.

The story had so much potential but with the lack of self-awareness, the over emphasis of the woke culture and weighed down by garbage writing, Jeepers Creepers: Reborn is the product of how talent in the business is dying. The story follows Chase and Laine who’re on a road trip to a horror festival. Things go sour when the Creeper awakens from its hibernation to begin its feeding cycle. It’s not as exciting as you think it would be and left me shaking my head. It’s boring, disjointed, not interesting, and it just feels bare bones and not because of its budget. There’s no real character development nor interesting story to establish the main characters.

And I know this is a “reboot” but it feels more like a fan film than anything. And I don’t understand why this is rebooted. From the way the story unfolds, this film could’ve been a part of the main continuity, either before the events of the first movie or 23 years after the second. There are these weird subplots in the film that aren’t fleshed out and some don’t even make sense. Since we don’t have much story on Chase and Laine’s relationship we don’t care about Chase’s proposal or Laine’s pregnancy. There’s literally no develop of their relationship. No growth. There’s this subplot with the town citizens apparently worshipping the Creeper, even leading the main characters to his lair. And it goes nowhere. It’s not focused on nor fleshed out enough. And there’s this subplot of Laine being the object of the Creeper’s attention. Why? In fact, it’s quite under played and never explained. It’s just crap all around and even the climax is painfully executed.

The characters are just as crap as you’d expect them to be. Chase and Laine are the leads and they had potential to be something worth investing in, but bad writing and bad dialogue keep them from being the well written like Trish and Darry. I would’ve liked them to be more fleshed out because they had potential. The rest of the characters are far more forgettable, though they had potential as well. It could’ve been awesome following a camera crew that stumbled upon his layer.

Overall, just the story and characters are lacking in talent and quality. (1 out of 5)

And the costume design, my jaw dropped at how crappy the Creeper looked. This was some of the worst costume design I’ve ever seen. In the previous films the Creeper’s look is intimidating (and yes, even in the 3rd film) but here he’s a joke, a knockoff. I’m talking about I’ve seen cosplay that looks just as good as the original films. And not only the costume design, but this has also got to be some of the worst green screen. I’m talking worse than the biking scene in part three. And if you’re thinking that you’re going to see a bunch of blood and gore, think again. Aside from one death where the creature eats a woman’s brain, the gore is practically none.

And the music. The music is just trash. Ian Livingstone’s had his hand in a lot of video game properties, and he’s got a long list under his belt. But this is just garbage. And the overall sound design is garbage. The way the Creeper sounds is just bad.

Overall, the special effects and sound design is garbage. (1 out of 5)

The performances and cast range from decent to bad. The performances are forgettable beyond belief. The two main leads, Sydney Craven (Laine) and Imran Adams (Chase), and they’re just there. They do a decent job but that’s not saying much considering how dumb and poorly written their characters are. Plus, if you think they had any chemistry, think again. And Jarreau Benjamin’s Creeper was not only a letdown but the worst thing about this film. This film also includes Pete Brooke, Ocean Navarro, Matt Barkley, Alexander Haisall, Jodie McMullen, Georgia Goodman, Gabriel Freilich, Dee Wallace, Gary Graham, and Romain Faure.

The writing and direction are absolutely terrible. After watching Jeepers Creepers 3 was under the impression that the writing couldn’t possibly get any worse. Boy was I wrong. There are so many plot holes, so many questionable decisions, so much stupidity that by the end of the movie I was left scratching my head. Why was there a working phone in an abandoned house? What was the point of the cult? Why was the escape room set in a location that the camera crew hadn’t been to? What was the point of the psychic visions?

Timo Vuorensola directed the trash. I took a look at his filmography, and I shook my head. This man has absolutely no credibility to have directed this property. What little direction that there is insulting. Then there’s the Woke garbage, which says so much about our entertainment and the downhill slope that it’s rolling down. The violence is very tame, and there’s only three deaths that you see.

And the characterization is just trash, especially the Creeper. The Creeper is the worst character by far. Jeepers Creepers 3 has a crap ton of problems with it but at least the Creeper is consistent with the previous films (outside of its sentient vehicle and telekinetic weapons). Why was the Creeper so recklessly displayed? Why wasn’t it attacking more people at the festival? How did it know to take out the Wi-Fi tower and not the power? Why the writing depicts the Creeper as an urban legend? How was its truck working after seemingly two decades of its hibernation? What was the point of the crows? Where did the whistling attack come from? So many of the characteristics of the Creeper feel striped away to be replaced by…well it just feels generic.

Overall, the writing, performances, and direction are pathetically bad.

The Verdict: In the end, Jeepers Creepers: Reborn is not only one of the worst horror films but one of the worst reboots. There’s literally no redeeming quality whatsoever. The direction is bad, special effects bad, performances bad, story bad, writing bad; just one of the worst films of 2022. Jeepers Creepers: Reborn gets 1 out of 5. It’s hard to be worse than Jeepers Creepers 3 but somehow this film does it. If I could rate this lower, I certainly would. No one should ever see this movie and the director and writer should never work on a project again.
