Fable II is great for a lot of reasons. One of the best reasons is how interactive the mechanics are especially the character customization. If you’re evil you look demonic but it changes if you’re good. If you eat a lot of junk food you turn fat. If you use a lot of magic your veins start to glow. And players can purchase property that accumulates money that players can get and buy even more property. Players can choose to tax the residents or give them light rent. The world is big and exploration is key, there are a lot monsters to fight, and there are a bunch of side missions.
(2) Halo 4 (2012)

Halo 4‘s story follows Master Chief, and his artificial intelligence construct Cortana, as they encounter and battles remnants of the former military alliance of alien races known as the Covenant and mechanical warriors of the Forerunner empire known as the Prometheans. Not only is the story deep, delving into the relationship between one of gaming’s most prominent pairs, but the graphics are great, sound design great, voice performances great. Not to mention that multiplayer is on point.

(3) Gears of War 3 (2011)

Set some time after the events of GOW2, GOW3 picks up with the last remnants of humanity attempting to survive its battle with the Locust Horde, as well as a new threat, the Lambent, which is slowly infecting the world of Sera. Marcus Fenix must once again lead Delta Squad and humanity to save his father, Adam, who holds the key to ending the human/Locust war once and for all.

(4) Tomb Raider (2013)

Tomb Raider is set on Yamatai, an island from which Lara, who is untested and not yet the battle-hardened explorer she is in other titles in the series, must save her friends and escape while being hunted down by a malevolent cult. The is one of the few reboots that actually manages to capture what made the older games fun while implementing new graphics and mechanics and make it good. The story is solid seeing a young Lara begin her developing arc to the badass we know she’ll become. The world is beautifully rendered, the music and sound design is rich, the combat’s intense, and the voice performances are solid.

(5) Fallout: New Vegas (2010)

Players take control of a character known as the Courier. While transporting a package across the Mojave Desert to the city of New Vegas, the Courier is ambushed, robbed of the package, shot in the head, and left for dead. After surviving, the Courier begins a journey to find their would-be killer and recover the package, makes friends and enemies among various factions, and ultimately becomes caught up in a conflict that determines who will control New Vegas and the Mojave Wasteland.

(6) Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag (2013)

The main story follows notorious Welsh pirate Edward Kenway, who stumbles upon the Assassin/Templar conflict. One of the best pirate games on the market, the level of exploration gives the freedom of seas and the many threats that it presents an authentic feeling. The assassin missions are fun and all but it’s sailing the high seas fighting other ships and forts, avoiding tsunamis and waterspouts, and even fishing that makes this game one of the best in the series.
(7) The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (2011)

The very definition of a fantasy adventure game, Skyrim is the Middle Earth of the video game world. Set 200 years after the events of Oblivion and taking place in the fictional province of Skyrim, the game’s story revolves around the player character’s quest to defeat Alduin the World-Eater, a dragon who is prophesied to destroy the world. Players will face the many threats including giants, trolls, dragons, vampires, and even bandits.

(8) Life is Strange (2015)

The plot focuses on Max Caulfield, an 18-year-old photography student who discovers that she has the ability to rewind time at any moment, leading her every choice to enact the butterfly effect. After having foreseen an approaching storm, Max must take on the responsibility to prevent it from destroying her town. The ability to make choices makes this game engaging and even the time traveling ability is fun. But it’s the story, characters, and the world that makes this such an engaging game.
(9) Red Dead Redemption (2010)

Want head to wide west and rope horses, collect bounty, and play horse shoes. Well, this is the game for you. Arguably the best cowboy game on the market (at least until its sequel/prequel release). Players ride with John Marston, a former gang member, who seeks revenge on his former gang who left him for dead. It’s a good story and with the wide setting and various characters makes for an excellent gaming experience.

(10) Grand Theft Auto V (2013)

Grand Theft Auto has done a great job with establishing its open world games and this latest entry has done a great job of creating a large, active open world that feels vibrant. One of the best features of Grand Theft Auto V is its main protagonists Franklin, Michael, and Trevor. They might not be the most likable characters but their interesting and seeing their journey is thrilling, filled with humor, disgust, action, and drama.
