Resident Evil Book Timeline

The Resident Evil franchise has become so big that it can be kind of daunting to try and follow. This post is created to put the franchise in order for those interested to know the full story. Resident Evil, also known as Biohazard, is a Japanese horror video game series and media franchise created by Capcom. The franchise follows people trying to survive outbreaks of zombies and other monsters created mainly by the pharmaceutical company Umbrella Corporation.

Zero Hour (Resident Evil #0)

Covering the ordeals experienced in the Arklay Mountains by special force unit, the STARS Bravo Team, the story follows officer Rebecca Chambers and convicted criminal Billy Coen as they explore an abandoned training facility for employees of the pharmaceutical company Umbrella.


The Umbrella Conspiracy (Resident Evil #1)

The plot follows Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine, members of an elite task force known as S.T.A.R.S., as they investigate the outskirts of Raccoon City following the disappearance of their team members. They soon become trapped in a mansion infested with zombies and other monsters. 


Caliban Cove (Resident Evil #2)

Set in the aftermath of Resident Evil, the surviving members of the S.T.A.R.S. attempt to warn the world about the conspiracy to create terrifying biological weapons. Rebecca Chambers joins a new S.T.A.R.S. strike force when they venture to Caliban Cove, Maine, where a mad scientist is building an army of the undead within the complex maze of sea caves.


City of the Dead (Resident Evil #3)

The plot follows a rookie police Leon S. Kennedy and a college student and Chris Redfield’s sister Claire Redfield, who must escape Raccoon City after its citizens are transformed into zombies by a biological weapon called the t-virus. The two must escape the Raccoon City police station while protecting a small girl named Sherry Birkin.


Underworld (Resident Evil #4)

Leon S. Kennedy, Claire Redfield, other surviving S.T.A.R.S. members and survivors of the Caliban Cove incident make their way to an Umbrella facility, known as The Planet, used to test and train the company’s experimental biological weapons. The group must infiltrate the facility in order to steal a codebook which would allow them access all of Umbrella’s secret documents.


Nemesis (Resident Evil #5)

Jill Valentine is one of the last remaining people in Raccoon City to witness the atrocities Umbrella performed during the Spencer incident. To stop her, Umbrella unleashes their ultimate secret weapon: Nemesis, targeting the STARS agents related to the Spencer incident. To survive, Jill is forced to cooperate with Carlos Oliveira, a stranded Umbrella Biohazard Countermeasure Service mercenary.


Code: Veronica (Resident Evil #6)

It follows Claire Redfield and her brother Chris Redfield in their efforts to survive a viral outbreak at a remote prison island called Rockport Island.


Resident Evil: The Marhawa Desire

The Marhawa Desire is set in Singapore and Tropical Forest of Asia during BSAA advisor Doug Wright’s investigation of a viral outbreak at the prestigious Marhawa School.


Resident Evil: Heavenly Island

A Japanese game show called “Idol Survival” sets up to film on an island in South America, where they plan to send “gravure” models into the wilderness as part of a competition. The producers are unaware that neighboring islands have recently reported the appearance of virally-induced mutants. As Claire Redfield arrives on the island to investigate the mutants on behalf of TerraSave, the “Idol Survival” competitors soon discover the source of the mutations: the jungle interior of the island is home to horrifically mutated humans, who attack them on sight.
