Resident Evil Media Timeline

The Resident Evil franchise has become so big that it can be kind of daunting to try and follow. This post is created to put the franchise in order for those interested to know the full story. Resident Evil, also known as Biohazard, is a Japanese horror video game series and media franchise created by Capcom. The franchise follows people trying to survive outbreaks of zombies and other monsters created mainly by the pharmaceutical company Umbrella Corporation.


Resident Evil 0 / Resident Evil Zero Hour – (July 1998)

Covering the ordeals experienced in the Arklay Mountains by special force unit, the STARS Bravo Team, the story follows officer Rebecca Chambers and convicted criminal Billy Coen as they explore an abandoned training facility for employees of the pharmaceutical company Umbrella.


Resident Evil / Resident Evil: The Umbrella Conspiracy / Resident Evil Remake – ( July 1998)

The plot follows Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine, members of an elite task force known as S.T.A.R.S., as they investigate the outskirts of Raccoon City following the disappearance of their team members. They soon become trapped in a mansion infested with zombies and other monsters. 


Resident Evil: Caliban Cove

Set in the aftermath of Resident Evil, the surviving members of the S.T.A.R.S. attempt to warn the world about the conspiracy to create terrifying biological weapons. Rebecca Chambers joins a new S.T.A.R.S. strike force when they venture to Caliban Cove, Maine, where a mad scientist is building an army of the undead within the complex maze of sea caves.


Resident Evil 2 / Resident Evil 2 Remake / Resident Evil: City of the Dead – (September 1998)

The plot follows a rookie police Leon S. Kennedy and a college student and Chris Redfield’s sister Claire Redfield, who must escape Raccoon City after its citizens are transformed into zombies by a biological weapon called the t-virus. The two must escape the Raccoon City police station while protecting a small girl named Sherry Birkin.


Resident Evil Outbreak – (September 1998)

The story follows the perspectives of eight survivors during the zombie plague in Raccoon City. It is set during the same general time period as Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis.


Resident Evil: Underworld

Leon S. Kennedy, Claire Redfield, other surviving S.T.A.R.S. members and survivors of the Caliban Cove incident make their way to an Umbrella facility, known as The Planet, used to test and train the company’s experimental biological weapons. The group must infiltrate the facility in order to steal a codebook which would allow them access all of Umbrella’s secret documents.


Resident Evil 3: Nemesis / Resident Evil 3 / Resident Evil: Nemesis – (September 1998)

Jill Valentine is one of the last remaining people in Raccoon City to witness the atrocities Umbrella performed during the Spencer incident. To stop her, Umbrella unleashes their ultimate secret weapon: Nemesis, targeting the STARS agents related to the Spencer incident. To survive, Jill is forced to cooperate with Carlos Oliveira, a stranded Umbrella Biohazard Countermeasure Service mercenary.


Resident Evil – Code: Veronica / Resident Evil Code Veronica – (December 1998)

It follows Claire Redfield and her brother Chris Redfield in their efforts to survive a viral outbreak at a remote prison island called Rockport Island.


Resident Evil 4 – (2004)

U.S. government special agentĀ Leon S. Kennedy is sent on a mission to rescue the U.S. president’s daughterĀ Ashley Graham, who has been kidnapped by a bioterrorist cult – Los Illuminados. In a rural part of Europe, Leon fights hordes of villagers infected by a mind-controlling parasite and reunites with the spyĀ Ada Wong.


Resident Evil: Revelations (2005)

The story follows Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance agent Jill Valentine and a Federal Bioterrorism Commission (FBC) agent named Parker Luciani, aboard a derelict cruise ship.


Resident Evil: Degeneration – (November 2005)

Seven years after the Raccoon City incident, a man heartbroken from losing loved ones in the destroyed city unleashes a remnant T-Virus in an airport, forcing special agent Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield, close allies and hardened survivors of the Raccoon City incident, to quell the outbreak and discover the truth behind it all.


Resident Evil 5: Lost in Nightmare DLC – (2006)

The DLC follows BSAA agents Jill Valentine and Chris Redfield who track down the founder of the Umbrella Corporation: Oswell E. Spencer.


Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness – (2006)

The White House has been subjected to a massive security breach in which Presidential computer files have been stolen. During the investigation, power is cut and the fortress is attacked by Zombies, adding more questions. The following day, TerraSave activist Claire Redfield visits to petition the construction for refugee centers for those affected by bioterrorism. In a chance meeting with US Army special operations soldier Leon S. Kennedy, the two are able to link the incident at the White House with a child’s drawing of another bioterror incident on the other side of the world.


Resident Evil 5 – (March 2009)

Set 11 years after Resident Evil the story involves an investigation of a terrorist threat by Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance agents Chris Redfield and Sheva Alomar in Kijuju, a fictional region of Africa, involving illegal bioweapon deals by TRICELL Inc.


Resident Evil 5: Desperate Escape DLC – (March 2009)

While Chris and Sheva fight alongside each other, Desperate Escape follows Jill Valentine and another BSAA agent Josh Stone as they fight to escape the TRICELL facility.


Resident Evil: Revelations 2 – (2011)

The story follows Terra Save operative Claire Redfield and Barry Burton’s daughter Moira Burton, are kidnapped from a party and taken to a desolate island. The two soon discover that the island is run by Alex Wesker, Albert Wesker’s sister. The story also follows Barry Burton who ventures to said island to rescue his daughter.


Resident Evil: Damnation – (2011)

United States Special Agent Leon S. Kennedy sneaks into a small Eastern European country to verify rumors that Bio Organic Weapons (B.O.W.s) are being used in war. Right after his infiltration, the U.S. government orders him to leave immediately.


Resident Evil: The Marhawa Desire – (2012)

The Marhawa Desire is set in Singapore and Tropical Forest of Asia during BSAA advisor Doug Wright’s investigation of a viral outbreak at the prestigious Marhawa School.


Umbrella Corps – (2012-2013)

It follows an agent codenamed 3A-7 who is a member of a private military company known as Blue Umbrella, a reformed Umbrella Corporation. He is sent on missions to test out new equipment, and once the testing is successful, his superiors try to kill him by sending him on more dangerous missions.


Resident Evil 6 – (2012-2013)

The story follows Bio-terrorism Security Assessment Alliance (BSAA) agents Chris Redfield and Piers Nivans, Division of Security Operations (DSO) agent Leon S. Kennedy and United States Secret Service agent Helena Harper, DSO agent Sherry Birkin and Jake Muller (the illegitimate son of late bio-terrorist Albert Wesker), and Ada Wong as they confront the force behind a worldwide bio-terrorist attack.


Resident Evil: Heavenly Island – (2014)

A Japanese game show called “Idol Survival” sets up to film on an island in South America, where they plan to send “gravure” models into the wilderness as part of a competition. The producers are unaware that neighboring islands have recently reported the appearance of virally-induced mutants. As Claire Redfield arrives on the island to investigate the mutants on behalf of TerraSave, the “Idol Survival” competitors soon discover the source of the mutations: the jungle interior of the island is home to horrifically mutated humans, who attack them on sight.


Resident Evil: Vendetta (2014-2015)

BSAA agent Chris Redfield enlists the help of DSO agent Leon S. Kennedy and former STARS unit member Rebecca Chambers to stop a death merchant and former CIA operative, Glenn Arias, from spreading a deadly virus in New York. 


Resident Evil 7: Biohazard – (July 2017)

The plot follows Ethan Winters as he searches for his wife, Mia, in a derelict plantation occupied by an infected family, known as the Baker family.


Resident Evil Village

Follows Ethan Winters, who searches for his kidnapped daughter in a village filled with mutant creatures.
