Top 100 Movie Characters of All Time (11-20)

We’re continuing our list of 100 movie characters of all time.

The Rules:

  • Must be from a live action film
  • Character can be a man, woman, or child
  • Character can be a nonhuman including aliens and robots

(11) John Wick

The world was introduce to Keanu Reeves during Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey. They were reminded of him in Speed. Then came the Matrix Trilogy. Now Reeves takes on the role of former hitman John Wick, one of the most deadly assassins to ever hit the big screen. John’s not the man to start a fight but you can damn well bet he’ll finish it. And in the most highly styled and badass way to boot.

Film(s): John Wick (2014), John Wick: Chapter 2 (2017), John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum (2019)

(12) Yu Shu Lien

There are very few older women that I’m into but if I had to put one on this list it would have to be Shu Lien. She’s wise in the ways of the world and her combat prowess makes her a force to be reckoned with. Not only is she fantastic in her martial arts but she’s highly skilled in a wide variety of weapons, being able to switch seamlessly. Michelle Yeoh is one of my all time favorite actresses and this role definitely helped to cement this.

Film(s): Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000), Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny (2016)

(13) Judge Dredd

First things first, we’re not talking about that trash that came out of the 90s with Sylvester Stallone. Hell no. We’re talking about Karl Urban bringing badassness to the big screen as the cold, ruthless Judge Dredd. Dredd’s only interested in one thing and that’s keeping the law. Anyone steps out of line gets their ass kicked and that’s what we expect from this no nonsense officer.

Film(s): Judge Dredd (1995), Dredd (2012)

(14) Raoul Silva

Raoul is one of the best Bond villains hands down. Most villains in the franchise want world domination, absolute power, tons and tons of cash. But Raoul’s motivation is simpler. He wants revenge against those he believes betrayed him, mainly M. We see that he simply doesn’t want revenge. We see that he’s hurting and shares camaraderie with Bond as they both have a bond with M. He’s charming, he’s extremely smart, has a shit ton of personality. He’s interesting and even comes across as really laid back. One of the best villains of all time. Thumbs up for Javier Bardem’s performance.

Film(s): Skyfall (2012)

(15) Simon Phoenix

Good villains are hard to make, especially black ones. But damnit if Wesley Snipes doesn’t hit the nail on the head. Someone please tell me he got an award for this role. Snipes plays the main antagonist Simon Phoenix, a criminal with no sympathy for human life and a love for chaos, death, and destruction. This role stands out a lot as it is different than most roles Snipes gets. He’s got charisma, he’s got skill, he’s got some great one liners.

Film(s): Demolition Man (1993)

(16) Juno MacGuff

I love a good character that can be a dick but also likable. Juno MacGuff is a spoiled white teenager who becomes pregnant after a one nighter with her best friend. This role practically put Ellen Page on the map and rightfully so. Juno’s charming, funny, and free spirited and we like seeing her growth.

Film(s): Juno (2007)

(17) Hu Li

Hu Li is the right-hand henchwoman of Ricky Tan and the secondary antagonist of Rush Hour 2. Zhang Ziyi typically plays good guys but it’s nice to see her change it up a bit. As Li, she’s incredibly beautiful but as ferocious and ruthless as a tiger. She’s definitely hit the list of Most Awesome Female Movie Antagonists.

Film(s): Rush Hour 2 (2001)

(18) Rita Vrataski

I believe Rita has earned the title of Angel of Verdun and rightfully so. She’s a highly skilled warrior who’s vanquished hundreds of asshole Mimic aliens who seek to do Earth harm. Emily Blunt is great in nearly all her roles and seeing her as this badass woman definitely puts her on this list.

Film(s): Edge of Tomorrow (2014)

(19) Harleen Quinzel/Harley Quinn

There are those who are great at playing a role and there are those who are born for it. Margot Robbie has taken the title of Harley Quinn and worn it like a fine skin. Harley’s crazy and psychotic but has enough charm to her character to make her likable. Not to mention she’s great with a bat.

Film(s): Suicide Squad (2016), Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey (2020)

(20) Rick O’Connell

Rick is the badass former soldier turned explorer who knows how to kick ass and take names. He’s even got a little humor to him. Rick’s the kind of guy you want in your corner while fighting legions of undead warriors. This is probably Brendan Frasier’s best role, or atleast his most badass.

Film(s): The Mummy (1999), The Mummy Returns (2001), The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (2008)
