Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order E3 2019

Easily one of the most impressive reveals of the 2019 E3 press conference, audiences were given gameplay of the new upcoming Star Wars game, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.

Cal Kestis is the main character in “Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order,” and a young Padawan – a Jedi in training – during Order 66, a purge to kill all Jedi. In hiding at the game’s beginning, Cal, along with his Droid BD-1, are forced to use his Jedi skills as they embark on a mini-adventure on the planet Kashyyyk during the game’s preview.

Safe to say that the extended gameplay demo was nothing short of a spectacle. Not only does it showcase some really good visuals both in cinematics and in-game, but impressive traversal and combat mechanics. The gameplay looks much deeper in terms of the controls.

The graphics deserve admiration. Character models have depth and individual characteristics to make them unique and different. The level designs are familiar with the technological, architecture, and landscape but great looking. That, along with the lighting effects, textures, incredible backdrops, active environments, and animations just make the level designs look great.

Like most Jedi, Cal brandishes his lightsaber in battle with precise strikes, acrobatics, parrying and deflecting. Also is his use of the force, and man does it look amazing. Every time Cal force pushes an opponent or pulls them in, the effect looks and feels impactful. One of the newest additions to force abilities in a Star Wars game is the Force Stun, which we see Kylo Ren use effectively in the 2015 The Force Awakens. The gameplay is solid with seamless transitions between lightsaber and force abilities, offering options when it comes to various situations and different combatants.

The enemy types are awesome and unique. We see Cal taking on Storm Troopers with various weapons, including blasters, flamethrowers, and even batons. Hell, there are the Purge Troopers who’ve been trained to fight Jedi and the new Security Droids. There’s so much more to the game including the various gameplay mechanics that weren’t in the preview and that I haven’t gotten into, the overall story, customization, the skill tree, the focus of BD-1 and its importance, etc.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is developed by Respawn Entertainment and published by Electronic Arts. It was announced during E3 201 and a more detailed reveal took place at the Star Wars Celebration in April 2019. The game will be released for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on November 15, 2019.
