Luke Cage Not Returning for a Season 3

Just after a week of announcing the cancellation of Marvel’s Iron Fist season three, Luke Cage was also announced to not return for a third season.  This show as well has been given the ax, no thanks to Marvel, Netflix, and Disney.  The series features Mike Colter as the lead character Luke Cage.

“Unfortunately, Marvel’s Luke Cage will not return for a third season,” Marvel and the streaming service said on Friday. “Everyone at Marvel Television and Netflix is grateful to the dedicated showrunner, writers, cast and crew who brought Harlem’s Hero to life for the past two seasons, and to all the fans who have supported the series.”

If Iron Fist‘s cancellation was a bit of a shock, then Luke Cage is a straight up injustice.  Season two left off with Cage taking over the club and being in a compromising position where he could potentially become a bad guy for the third season.  At least what could’ve been a third season.

This raises a pretty interesting point.  Is Iron Fist and Luke Cage‘s cancellation the start of the breakdown between Marvel and Netflix?  Out of the five series (six if you’re counting The Defenders) two have been taken off the table.  And what of the fate of the Immortal Iron Fist and the Hero of Harlem?  Will they continue making appearances within the other series?
