Halo: First Strike (Halo #3) is a 2003 military science fiction novel written by Eric Nylund, published by Del Rey.  Based on the Halo series of video games and set between the events of Halo: Combat Evolved and Halo 2, the story follows both the unsuccessful attempt to defend Reach by the SPARTAN-IIs who were on the planet’s surface and the adventures of the rag-tag survivors of the battle at Alpha Halo.
