During the Xbox E3 2019 press conference it was announced that a new Blair Witch game was dropping in August of this year.
Set in 1992, the trailer revealed the main protagonists, a police officer Ellis and his dog Bullet, trying to locate a missing child in the Black Hills Forest near Burkittsville, Maryland. Along with his trusty flashlight Ellis and Bullet will have to navigate the haunted woods and overcome the curse of the Blair Witch if they want to survive.
The film franchise started in 1999 when the first Blair Witch Project was released, beginning a new genre of horror films; the found footage genre. Blair Witch will be a first-person experience focused on psychological horror that easily fits the lore of the franchise.
Though based on the lore of the franchise, this game will feature an original story that will be part of the main canon. We can expect to see elements from games such as Outlast, Resident Evil 7, The Evil Within, and Amnesia. There’ll be some puzzle solving, some run and hide, the ability to fend off the horrors of the woods.
The game will be developed by Bloober Team which has had its hand in the horror genre with Layers of Fear. It will be released on PC and Xbox One.
