Bomb Queen | Casting Choices Ep.11

What’s going on guys, this your boy NarikChase, and we’re kicking off with another episode of Casting Choices.

In this episode, we’re casting Bomb Queen. Who is Bomb Queen? Let’s drop some knowledge. A supervillain under Image Comics, she’s a supervillain and dictator who rules over the fictional city of New Port City where she has banned all superheroes. Yes, you heard me correctly, straight up banned them.

Bomb Queen first appeared in 2006 in Bomb Queen issue 1 created by comic book creator Jimmie Robinson. She’s appeared in eight limited series and four single-issue specials. She’s had several crossovers with heroes such as Blacklight, Hack/Slash, and even Savage Dragon.

Originally part of a quartet of supervillains called the Four Queens, the Queens turned on her with Bomb Queen emerging as the victor. Bomb Queen’s personality is utterly self-serving, taking little consideration to the suffering of others as she often kills at random and isn’t afraid to act upon her sexual urges making her quite perverted. She’s an expert with explosives and with the assistance of her supercomputer Occularium and her pet cat Ashe, she’s a powerful opponent. But the rabbit hole goes much deeper concerning her origins and evolution.

Okay, now that we’ve familiarized ourselves with the Queen now, we can cast her. The four actresses we’re casting are Florence Pugh, Willa Holland, Aubrey Plaza, and Jane Levy.

Florence Pugh made our list during her performance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Yelena Belova the sister of Natasha Romanoff, better known as the Black Widow. Despite the criticisms of the Black Widow film, her performance was one of the highlights. She’s proven herself capable of handling the physical aspects of the character, and I can totally buy her portraying the Queen’s uncaring attitude. But that’s not the end of it. Pugh actually has some solid acting talent receiving acclaim for her performances in Lady Macbeth (2016), Little Women (2019), The Falling (2014), and Midsommar (2019).

Next up on our list is Willa Holland, another actress who’s no stranger to comic book adaptations. Holland portrayed Oliver Queen’s sister Thea in the comic book show Arrow, the CW’s adaptation of Green Arrow. Holland’s film roles include Blood in the Water (2016), Legion (2010), Tiger Eyes (2012), and Straw Dogs (2011) and her televion credits include reoccuring roles in The O.C., Gossip Girl, and the CW’s Arrowverse. Holland has proven she has range and that can go well with the Queen’s fun but cruel nature.

Aubrey Plaza is our next contestant and she’s got an extensive acting career dominating both film and television. She’s also appeared in a comic book movie, playing Julie Powers in the 2010 Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. Plaza has range and I can definitely buy her having fun causing massive amounts of collateral damage. And not only that, but she also has such a strong sex appeal that I find fitting for the character. Besides, I think it would be incredibly awesome seeing her play a villainous role. Her acting credits include The To Do List (2013), Ingrid Goes West (2017), Black Bear (2020), and the tv show Parks and Recreation.

And our final participant will be Jane Levy who’s done well for herself in both television and film. She’s most notable for her role as Tessa Altman in the tv show Suburgatory, as well as Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist, 2013’s Evil Dead, and 2016’s Don’t Breathe. Levy’s done a comedy, drama, horror, and thrillers so a comic book role wouldn’t be a bad addition to her portfolio. Not only can she act, but she has presence and that works for the Queen cause literally wherever she goes all eyes are on her. Plus, Levy is a beautiful woman but she’s incredibly sexy with black hair.
