Vampires! Vampires! VAMPIRES! There are an untold number of vampire movies out there and we’re completely ecstatic. In this post, we’re counting down fifty of the most memorable (and personal favorite) vampires in film. This list will include not only full blooded vampires but also hybrids and/or mutations.
(20) Marie
Marie is a modern day vampire who feeds on and kills criminals. What makes Marie so memorable is that she’s pretty and she uses that to bait and draw in her unsuspecting prey. And that French accent is just heavenly. Not to mention I like seeing her eyes glow different colors depending on her moods.
Portrayed by: Anne Parillaud
Film: Innocent Blood (1992)
Also feature in:
(19) Amy Peterson
Amy was the sweet girl everyone had their hearts set on. And among a cast of really bad characters such as Charley and Peter, Amy was a more grounded and interesting character. Jerry manages to capture and bite Amy turning her into a vampire. And damn it if she don’t have some of the most terrifying scenes in the film. She goes from a sweet girl to a sexy vampire chick to just a straight up monster.
Portrayed by: Amanda Bearse
Film: Fright Night (1985)
Also featured in:
(18) Mina Harker
In a large cast of men with awesome abilities, transformations, and curses, we needed a woman who’d fit right in. And boy is Mina Harker a fantastic choice. The original La Femme Nikita but as a vampire, Mina manages to be both sexy as hell and deadly.
Portrayed by: Peta Wilson
Film: The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (2003)
Also featured in:
(17) Count Vladislaus Dracula
Though not the best written character (nor acted for that matter) 2004’s Van Helsing introduced us to a fun and sophisticated yet dangerous version of Dracula. And what’s even better is his ability to transform into his demonic form, which looks like a monstrous bat.
Portrayed by: Richard Roxburgh
Film: Van Helsing (2004)
Also featured in:
(16) Louis de Pointe du Lac
Brad Pitt gave the performance of a lifetime as the tormented Louis who tries to hang on to his humanity despite his transformation into a creature of the night. Louis’ moral dilemma forms the core of film.
Portrayed by: Brad Pitt
Film: Interview with the Vampire (1994)
Also featured in:
(15) Prince Mamuwalde / Blacula
Though a bit corny at first, Blacula is actually a pretty compelling character. Forced into vampirism, he wanders the world as the original black vampire. Handsome, charismatic, and powerful, Blacula is the apex of black men in horror.
Portrayed by: William Marshall
Film: Blacula (1972)
(14) David
David is one of the main antagonists of the Lost Boys film. He’s the leader of the band of misfits who try to recruit Michael into their ranks. David is the stereotypical bad boy all the way from mullet haircut, to his tough personality, to dark clothing. But what makes David so memorable is that despite the many lives he’s taken, he’s quite charming.
Portrayed by: Kiefer Sutherland
Film: The Lost Boys (1987)
(13) Jared Nomak
Of all the vampires on this list, Jared’s probably the most interesting. He’s the by product of experiments on vampires to remove their vulnerabilities. For the most part, the experiments are successful. However, Jared’s got an appetite for vampires and a major chip on his shoulder as well. His design does favor Nosferatu and when he feeds he looks like a demon from hell.
Portrayed by: Luke Goss
Film: Blade II (2002)
Also featured in:
(12) Maximillian
One of the best things about this movie, Eddy Murphy gives us an awesome vampire that’s both deadly yet charming. In his quest to acquire Rita as his mate, we’ve seen his lack of compassion towards human life, his powerful spellcasting abilities, and his mastery of manipulation. Despite your feelings of the film, it’s safe to say that Murphy as a sophisticated vampire worked out really well.
Portrayed by: Eddie Murphy
Film: Vampire in Brooklyn (1995)
Also featured in:
(11) Blade
No one deserves to be on this list more than the Daywalker himself. Blade is a half human/half vampire hybrid who hunts and kills vampires. He has all the vampire strengths such as strength, speed, and regeneration while not having their weaknesses. Well, except his thirst for blood. The truest vampire slayer next to characters such as Buffy Sanders and Van Helsing.
Portrayed by Wesley Snipes
Film: Blade (1998), Blade II (2002), Blade: Trinity (2004)
Also featured in:
(10) Santanico Pandemonium
Santanico is probably one of the most interesting and most underutilized characters in the film. But despite this, the best scene in the film is her dancing on stage. Gorgeous, graceful, and alluring, she’s just perfect. Salma Hayek has always been a sexy woman but there’s literally no other scene in any other movie that she’s as sexy as she is here. Well, at least until she goes into her snake form.
Portrayed by: Salma Hayek
Film: From Dusk till Dawn (1996)
Also featured in:
(9) Jerry Dandrige
Jerry is a smart, strong, and seductive vampire who uses his good looks and personality to achieve his goals.
Portrayed by: Chris Sarandon
Film: Fright Night (1985)
(8) The Vampire
Kurylenko is without a doubt one of my favorite actresses and when I saw this picture, I had to look up the source. And boy I wasn’t disappointed. Feature in a short anthology scene, Kurylenko portrays a vampire who’s feeding on a man when Elijah Wood’s character comes across her. She’s mysterious and probably one of the sexiest vampires I’ve seen on film. Those eyes are so intense yet enchanting, the pale and glowing skin, there’s no facet of her character that isn’t just sexy.
Portrayed by: Olga Kurylenko
Film: Paris, je t’aime (2006)
Also featured in:
(7) Jan Valek
Valek is a 600 year old vampire and one of the first of his kind. Valek is that vampire type where you look at him and you know something’s wrong. He’s already a pretty tall guy but the pale skin, sharp claws, and fangs give him this really creepy vibe. But also his eyes, they’re intense and penetrating. Valek’s best moment is when he slaughters the vampire slayers at the beginning of the film.
Portrayed by: Thomas Ian Griffith
Film: John Carpenter’s Vampires (1998)
(6) Abby
Abby is more or less a villain than an anti-hero. What makes her so dangerous is the fact that she’s a child, which she uses to her advantage when hunting prey.
Portrayed by: Chloe Grace Moretz
Film: Let Me In (2010)
(5) Marcus Corvinus
Underworld features some really interesting characters and Marcus is on the top of that list. Marcus is a pure blood Vampire Hybrid who can take the form of a demonic bat. He has some pretty awesome scenes and he attacks using the talons on his wings.
Portrayed by: Tony Curran
Film: Underworld: Evolution (2006)
Also featured in:
(4) Victoria Sutherland
Victoria is a sadistic female vampire and one of the main antagonists of the Twilight films who seeks revenge against the Cullens after the death of her mate James. Nothing against Gemma Arterton’s performance but I like Lefevre’s performance. She’s sexy but you can see how deadly a character she is. Not to mention, she’s a red head.
Portrayed by: Rachelle Lefevre
Film: Twilight (2008), The Twilight Saga: New Moon (2009)
Also featured in:
(3) Count Dracula / Vlad the Impaler
One of the most iconic vampire performances in film history, Oldman gave us a Dracula who’s sadistic and ruthless but who’s also tormented.
Portrayed by: Gary Oldman
Film: Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1992)
Also featured in:
(2) Lestat de Lioncourt
One of Cruise’s most iconic roles. Lestat has a very sadistic personality especially towards humans. He uses charm and sophistication to cover up his murderous and evil tendencies.
Portrayed by: Tom Cruise
Film: Interview with the Vampire (1994)
Also featured in:
(1) Selene
Selene is a former Vampire Death Dealer, sired by the Vampire Elder Viktor after he had slaughtered her family unknown to her. Selene definitely needs to be number one. She’s tough, she’s sexy, she’s badass on nearly every level. She takes down vampires, lycans, werewolves, and all kinds of hybrids.
Portrayed by: Kate Beckinsale
Film: Underworld (2003), Underworld: Evolution (2006), Underworld: Rise of the Lycans (2009), Underworld: Awakening (2012), Underworld: Blood Wars (2016)
