Episode 3 – The Last Place You Look

The Last Place You Look (Episode 3) picks up after the events of Assembly Required (Episode 2), the third act starts with Ivor escaping, locking our heroes in the library.  Despite not knowing Magnus  or Ellegaard’s location, Jesse uses the amulet to locate Soren in which they dig a hole into an underground tunnel.  The group then come upon a machine known as a grinder, that is despite to destroy monsters.  They are attacked by Creeprs and after Jesse and Petra fend them off, one explodes creating an escape route to a nearby catwalk for the group.  However, Jesse loses the amulet as it drops to a lower level.  The group make their way to the lower levels while combating various mobs and manage to retrieve the amulet but end up falling into the grinder.  They survive but are attacked by more monsters, being chased into an End Portal.  There they encounter a “crap ton” of Endermen but do find Soren.  After following him they discover his artificial world but not him.  Jesse confronts Lukas about his behavior in which he confides about Petra’s withersickness and his guilt at freezing at the initiate Wither attack.  They discover Soren’s experiments with the Endermen and find him in a “crap ton” of Endermen who later agrees to join them right before the Endermen invade his home.  Jesse puts on the Endermen suits and uses it to infiltrate the Endermen and break the fountains so that the others can safely navigate through.  The Endermen are alerted to their presence but the group manage to escape.  After acquiring the Super TNT and other ingredients for the Formidi-Bomb they escape in minecarts after more Endermen arrive.  They manage to regroup with Ellengaard and Magnus but they are in the middle of an attack by the Witherstorm.  While the others distract the Witherstorm, Jesse successfully builds the Formidi-Bomb and detonates it but Ellengaard is fatally wounded (as she gave Jesse her armor).  They discover that the Witherstom’s victims are stilll alive and while looking for survivors when Jesse comes upon the Command Block, but he is saved by Gabriel when it tries to draw him in.  The Command Block then resurrects the Witherstorm but this time it is separated into three Witherstorms.  The episode ends with Gabriel not knowing who he is.

The Verdict:  In the end, Episode 3 – The Last Place You Look is a pretty intense episode.  It does feel somewhat like filler because of how big Soren’s Fortress really is and the adventures the group go through.  However, Ellengaard’s sacrifice was a very telling an emotional moment.  Also, Lukas does show a lot of character as his concern for Petra does reflect on the guilt on himself.  The Witherstorm’s resurrection was a complete shocking twist.  The Formidi-Bomb didn’t destroy the creature completely.  Good, good episode.  Episode 3 – The Last Place You Look gets 3 out of 5.
