Netflix and Marvel have decided to give Iron Fist the axe. There will be no season three for the master martial artist. The series features Finn Jones and Jessica Henwick as the leads Danny Rand and Colleen Wing.
“Everyone at Marvel Television and Netflix is proud of the series and grateful for all of the hard work from our incredible cast, crew and showrunners,” Marvel and Netflix added. “We’re thankful to the fans who have watched these two seasons, and for the partnership we’ve shared on this series. While the series on Netflix has ended, the immortal Iron Fist will live on.”
The cancellation comes as a shock for a lot of fans. Like the movies, the series has built a lot of interesting subplots for more intriguing storylines. Season two left off with both Colleen and Danny obtaining the power of the Iron Fist (showcasing some interesting abilities in the process), a great cliffhanger that was an obvious setup for a season three. This is crazy since season two was significantly better than the first season.
As of now Jessica Jones has been confirmed for a season three, Punisher has been confirmed for a season two, and it’s still up in the air for a season four for Daredevil. Unfortunately, it looks like we’re not going to get a season two for The Defenders. The question is is Disney’s choice for their own streaming service the reason for the cancellation? Or is it because of failing ratings? Is this the end of the partnership between Marvel and Netflix?
