Actress Anna Diop has been cast as the Tamaranian warrior princess Koriand’r aka Starfire.  Anna Diop is most known for her role as Isabel in Greenleaf, Rose Arvale in The Messengers, and the main role Nicole Carter in 24: Legacy.

Koriand’r, aka Starfire, is the princess of the fictional planet Tamaran who escaped to Earth after being banished after her sister Blackfire usurped the throne.  She joins the Teen Titans and becomes romantically involved with Robin.  Created by Marv Wolfman and George Perez.

The photos reveal the look of Starfire.  Of course, she’s black (though Starfire has orange skin) and she has curly bright red hair.  She’s also wearing a purple dress with a fur coat (probably because it’s cold where they are shooting).

Let’s just point out the elephant in the room.  Starfire looks like a prostitute.  Now I do realize that some costume and physical characteristics won’t transition well into live action (although there are plenty of convincing cosplays out there).

I’m so so about Diop as Starfire.  On one hand she could completely kill the role.  And on the other, I’m not familiar with her work.  But like so many comic book castings before her, she deserves a chance.

How far will they have Starfire developed?  Will she be just getting to Earth?  Will she have been on Earth for a certain period?  Also, how much bactstory and exposition will Starfire have?  Will Blackfire make an appearance?
