Top 20 Anime That Deserve a Rewatch

If you’re a true anime fan, you’ve come up with a list of your favorites. And if you’ve watched any number of anime you’d be hard pressed not to have a list.

Some of these have gained godlike status while others have kind of flew under the radar. Regardless, these entires are just my personal opinion, but I’m confident most fans will agree with my choices.

These titles are based on quality of characters, depth of story, and level of entertainment.


(1) Attack on Titan (2013-2023)

After his hometown is destroyed and his mother is killed, young Eren Jaeger vows to cleanse the earth of the giant humanoid Titans that have brought humanity to the brink of extinction.

(2) DragonBall Z (1989-2003)

The adventures of Earth’s martial arts defender Son Goku continue with a new family and the revelation of his alien origin. Now Goku and his allies must defend the planet from an onslaught of new extraterrestrial enemies.

A young girl arrives at a school of superhumans to find out the truth behind her father’s murder.

(4) Crayon Shin-Chan (1992-1996)

Set in Kasukabe, Saitama Prefecture, Japan, the series follows the adventures of the five-year-old Shinnosuke “Shin” Nohara and his parents, baby sister, dog, neighbours, and best friends.

(5) Highschool of the Dead (2010)

The story follows a group of high school students and the school’s nurse as they deal with the worldwide catastrophic event known as the “Outbreak” where a deadly pandemic turns humans into flesheating zombies.


(6) BlazBlue Alter Memory (2013)

In 2199, humanity eagerly waits for the dawn of the new century, after ending a series of devastating magical war. Word spreads that Ragna the Bloodedge, an SS-class rebel with the highest ever bounty and a powerful form of Ars Magus known as the “Azure Grimoire”, has appeared in the 13th Hierarchical City of Kagutsuchi. To collect the bounty, a motley array of fighters converge on Kagutsuchi.


(7) Yuki Yuna is a Hero (2014)

The story follows members of the Middle School Hero Club, Yuna, Mimori, Karin, Fu and Itsukim who find themselves encountering mysterious monsters known as Vertex who seek to destroy the Shinju (Divine Tree). Yuna and her friends gain magical powers becoming heroes to protect the world from destruction.


(8) Naruto: Shippuden (2007-2017)

Naruto Uzumaki, is a loud, hyperactive, adolescent ninja who constantly searches for approval and recognition, as well as to become Hokage, who is acknowledged as the leader and strongest of all ninja in the village.


(9) Corpse Party: Tortured Souls (2013)

The students or Kirisagi academy are whisked away to a cursed school when a charm suggested by the class representative, Ayumi Shinozaki, goes wrong. They find themselves separated into small groups and must fight to find each other but also to survive.


(10) Fist of the North Star (1984-1988)

Years after the Earth and civilization was nearly destroyed by a nuclear holocaust, the survivors of the fallout struggle over the remaining supply food and water left. Kenshiro, successor to an ancient, deadly martial art known as Hokuto Shinken (Fist of the North Star), travels the wasteland bringing justice to the lawless world.


(11) Noragami (2014)

Noragami follows Hiyori Iki who survives a near fatal accident only for her soul to frequently slip out of her body. She meets a nameless god without a shrine named Yato and his Regalia, named Yukine, as they go on adventures.


(12) Lupin the 3rd (1971-1972)

The adventures of the master thief Lupin III and his cohorts as they dive into various escapades, all the while in pursuit by the tenacious Inspector Zenigata.

(13) World War Blue (2012-2013)

A parody of the console wars, the series tells the story of two nations, the Segua Kingdom and Ninteldo Empire, locked in a struggle for dominance over the land of Consume. After years of war, the Segua Kingdom is on the defensive until a boy named Gear appears boasting of his incredible speed and powers, but what he does not know is that another person out there is more powerful than he is.


(14) Golden Boy (1995-1996)

A University drop-out rides Japan on his bicycle, taking part-time jobs and trying not to take women.


(15) Kill Me Baby (2012)

It follows the school lives of a high school girl Yasuna Oribe, along with her friends Sonya, a female assassin, and Agiri Goshiki, a female ninja.


(16) One Piece (1999-current)

Follows the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy and his pirate crew in order to find the greatest treasure ever left by the legendary Pirate, Gold Roger. The famous mystery treasure named “One Piece”.


(17) Sankarea: Undying Love (2012)

A story of a boy named Chihiro who has a fascination with the undead and wished to have a zombie girlfriend. Chihiro managed to create a resurrection potion to save his pet cat, but unfortunately, it went into the hands of a beautiful girl named Sanka Rea. She drank it and after falling to her death was resurrected into a zombie.


(18) Samurai Champloo (2004-2005)

Fuu, a waitress who works in a teahouse, rescues two master swordsmen, Mugen and Jin, from their execution to help her find the “samurai who smells of sunflowers.”

(19) Tiger & Bunny (2011)

It is set in a futuristic city where heroes fight crime whilst promoting real life sponsors, focusing on two superheroes, the old-fashioned Kotetsu T. Kaburagi “Wild Tiger” and the rookie hero Barnaby Brooks Jr. “Bunny”, as they are forced by their employers to work together.

(20) Okami-san & her Seven Companions (2010)

Set in the fictional Otogibana City, Okami-san & her Seven Companions follows the lives of Ryoko Okami (the eponymous Okami-san) and her friends, or companions, throughout their service as members of a “trading” club known as the Otogi High School Bank.
