Top 100 Movie Characters of All Time (1-10)

Welcome to another one of our post. We are counting one hundred of our favorite and most badass characters in film.

The Rules:

  • Must be from a live action film
  • Character can be a man, woman, or child
  • Character can be a nonhuman including aliens and robots

(1) Indiana Jones (Indiana Jones)

Portrayed by Harrison Ford, Dr. Henry Walton “Indiana” Jones, Jr. is the title character and protagonist of the Indiana Jones franchise.  Jones has a wry sense of humor, deep knowledge of ancient civilizations and languages, and fear of snakes.  He’s an archeologist and adventurer who seeks out rare and ancient treasure while also battling an assortment of villains from acquiring such artifacts.


(2) Richard B. Riddick (The Chronicles of Riddick)

Riddick is a former soldier and convict, a Human/Furyan hybrid, and titular character of The Chronicles of Riddick series. Portrayed by Vin Diesel.  Riddick is shown to be a highly skilled predator—he is extremely mobile and stealthy, has a vast knowledge of how to kill in a variety of ways, is an extreme survivalist, and is notoriously hard to contain. One of his most defining features are his eyes, a characteristic inherent in a certain caste of his species (the Alpha-Furyans), which allows him to see clearly in the dark, but also makes him vulnerable to strong light; he wears tinted welding goggles for protection.


(3) James Bond (007)

Agent 007, more commonly known as James Bond, is an agent of British Secret Intelligence Service (M16) and Senior Operational Officer of the ‘Double-O’ Branch, and the titular hero of the James Bond series of films having a lengthy career as a superspy with a license to kill ergo the code number 007.  He has taken on villains intent on world domination and terrorism while becoming one of the most well-known heroes in the world. Several actors have portrayed the role of Bond.


(4) Han Solo (Star Wars)

Han Solo is the pilot of a ship called Millennium Falcon and a famous smuggler.  An exceptional marksman with a quick wit and a knack for nearly impossible situations, he is one of Star Wars most iconic faces.  He becomes involved in the conflict between the rebels and the Empire, even becoming one of the main reasons for the rebels’ success.  Actors who’ve portrayed the character are Harrison Ford in the main trilogy and Alden Ehrenreich in the Solo: A Star Wars Story film (which unfortunately isn’t a good film).


(5) Captain Jack Sparrow (Pirates of the Caribbean)

Disney’s iconic pirate, Captain Jack Sparrow, is one of the nine pirate lords in the Brethren Court, the Pirate Lords of the Seven Seas. He can be treacherous and survives mostly by using wit and negotiation rather than by force, opting to flee most dangerous situations and to fight only when necessary.  He’s played by the awesome Johnny Depp.

(6) Gandalf the Gray (The Lord of the Rings/The Hobbit)

He is a wizard, member of the Istari order, as well as leader of the Fellowship of the Ring and the army of the West.  Gandalf is portrayed by Ian McKellen in the live action films.  Gandalf is quite wise and very knowledgeable about the many different languages, cultures, races, and history.


(7) Thanos (Marvel Cinematic Universe)

Thanos is the big bad of the MCU, who many of our heroes and villains have either clashed with or allied themselves with.  Thanos is an powerful extraterrestrial warlord who commands a massive army known as the Chitauri.  He is also extremely dangerous, bloodthirsty, sadistic, and cruel; and is extremely unforgiving and intolerant of failures, with a loathsome nature.  Played by the awesome Josh Brolin.


(8) Joker (Batman)

Jack Nicholson is the first Joker to be put on the big screen, followed by Heath Ledger and Jared Leto.  He is a criminal supervillain and the archenemy of Batman and the killer of his parents.  He’s extremely sadistic with a wicked sense of humor.  He’s a former criminal who fell into a chemical vat after a confrontation with Batman.  He survived with the chemicals bleaching his skin, turning his hair green, red lips, and his famous wide grin.


(9) Obi-Wan Kenobi (Star Wars)

Obi-Wan Kenobi is a Jedi Master who trained Luke Skywalker in the ways of the Force.  He was portrayed by Alec Guiness in the original trilogy and Ewan McGregor in the prequels.  He is an extremely wise and skillfull Jedi warrior, which a sarcastic wit.


(10) Bruce Wayne/Batman (Batman)

DC’s Dark Knight has been in the film superhero game for some time but it isn’t until 1989’s Batman that he really got a foothold. Bruce Wayne is the son of billionaires Thomas and Martha Wayne, who were killed in a mugging, which ultimately turns him onto the path of wreaking havoc on the criminal world.
