The series centers on an interstellar war between humanity and an alliance of aliens known as the Covenant. The Covenant, led by their religious leaders called the Prophets, worship an ancient civilization known as the Forerunners, who perished in combat with the parasitic Flood. Halo has not only been a great story but it has also featured a lot of great characters.

(2) Cortana

(3) Dr. Catherine Halsey

Without Halsey there would be no Master Chief and no Spartans.  Halsey is the genius behind the Spartan Program.  It is through her actions that humanity stands a chance against the overwhelming forces of the Covenant.

(4)  The Arbiter / Thel’Vadam

Introduced in Halo 2, Thel ‘Vadam, adopting the status as Arbiter, is tasked with quelling insurrectionist within the Covenant ranks.  However, his loyalty shifts when he learns that the Prophets’ beliefs are lies and aids Master Chief and Cortana in ending the Human/Covenant War.

(5) Sergeant Avery Johnson

If there were anyone near as tough as Master Chief or the Arbiter, it’s Johnson.  Johnson leads his soldiers into battle with grit and attitude and with as much presence as Master Chief and is almost as legendary.  Not to mention he has a loudmouth with some of the best one liners.

(6) Captain Keyes

The first Halo game introduced us to series protagonist Master Chief and Cortana but it also introduced us to the captain of the Pillar of Autumn, Captain Keyes.  Keyes is the embodiment of duty and order and he commands his soldiers with respect, which is why he’s so respected in the military.  Not to mention he was beast enough to land the Pillar of Autumn while it was being shot down by Covenant forces.  He’s the father of Miranda Keyes and it’s easy to see where she gets her commanding presence from.
