The Evil Dead franchise has always been a crazy and gross series but damnit if this episode didn’t take it to the next level. It was an entertaining episode and it shows how much Ash is an idiot (albeit a well meaning one).
The funeral was a bit of a nice touch to help create a serious bridge between Ash and Brandy. Of course, we knew that Brandy was coming back as a Deadite and it was entertaining but the emotional aftermath was to be expected.
Ruby’s made it known that she’s back and now Ash has to somehow protect his daughter who hates him. But again, it raises a good question. Just what is Ruby up to?
Brandy kind of reminds me of Amanda from the first season who just gets thrown into all of this chaos. I think it was another emotional string to pull when Ruby revived Ash’s father, Brock. I wished Brock could’ve lasted a little long to help widen the divide between Ash and Brandy but he got his ass chainsawed.
On the other side of things Kelly, Pablo and Dalton are searching for the Kandarian Dagger when Dalton gets killed. I didn’t really give a shit about Dalton as a character and wished he would’ve lived long enough to develop or something.
The little musical number with Bruce Campbell was actually pretty entertaining.
The Verdict: In the end, “Apparently Dead” is a good episode and I like the double meaning of the title. We see more of the emotional aftermath of Ruby’s influence and how it is creating a divide between Brandy and Ash. Also, Dalton got killed bringing nothing to the plot whatsoever. “Apparently Dead” gets 3 out of 5.
