It’s been a while since we’ve seen anything from these outrageous amphibians. The most recent being Rash being added as a DLC character for the 2013 Killer Instinct, as well as being included in the Rare Replay and Shovel Knight.

Zitz, Pimple, and Rash will making their return on the Xbox One and Microsoft. The new Battletoads is being developed by DLaLa Studios ( OverRuled and Jansky: Space Based Physics Adventure ) and Rare (Battletoads, Donkey Kong Country, Sea of Thieves, etc.) with Microsoft publishing the title.

The original Battletoads was a 2D beat em up game following the toads as they attempt to defeat the toads’ nemesis the Dark Queen and her army of space mutants. We’ve interested to see if this will be the same in terms of story for this sequel.

The trailer revealed a new look for the series. The hand drawn animation looks unique with bright colors and creative level design. The gameplay looks chaotic with the toads shapeshifting abilities at their finest combined with puzzle solving sections and vehicular chase levels (yes, speeder bikes are back) for a fun and unique experience.

There’s yet to be a release date.
