Marvel’s Daredevil (Season 2) | NarikChase Review

Marvel’s Daredevil (Season 2) is a 2016 superhero action crime drama series created by Drew Goddard starring Charlie Cox, Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson, Jon Bernthal, Elodie Yung, Stephen Rider, Rosario Dawson, and Vincent D’Onofrio.  Season Two follows Matt Murdock / Daredevil, a blind lawyer-by-day who fights crime at night, crossing paths with the deadly Frank Castle / Punisher along with the return of an old girlfriend–Elektra Natchios.

Charlie Cox continues to do just a great job of his character.  I like the character struggles with the morality of violence as well as how much his life as Daredevil takes over his life as Matt Murdock.  This affects his relationships with Foggy Nelson and Karen Page, who offer much to the character’s story.

Jennifer Garner’s got nothing on Elodie Yung. The first of season two’s star characters is Elektra Natchios and this time around she is badass.  I like that we see this character more edgier and fun than in previous incarnations and easily kills all her scenes.  She tempts Matt in the same way Black Cat tempts Peter Parker, wanting him to be that bad boy.  She’s a strong part of the story where she and Matt have this really complicated relationship but it has great development.  But she’s not simply Matt’s squeeze.  She’s also important to the Hand revealing how she’s connected to the mysterious organization.

And this brings us to our second star, Frank Castle aka the Punisher.  He’s pissed off and is wiping the floor with the criminals and from the moment he comes onto the screen he’s just angry and awesome.  Jon Bernthal is great as Castle, in fact, he’s one of the best.  He manages to be tough and ruthless but also deep, especially with his relationship to Karen Page which expands more into the events surrounding the death of his family.  And it also focuses on the contrast between how he punishes criminals and how Daredevil does it.  It’s a great point of contention between the two.

I’m glad they brought Fisk back.  He’s a great character and Vincent D’Onofrio does a fantastic job with the character.  Although he’s in jail after his confrontation with Daredevil in season one he’s far from being put down.  He quickly establishes himself the top dog and that his reach isn’t just within the prison.  He has this really good moment with Frank and Murdock that actually makes him pretty damn smart.

The storytelling continues to be really good though the main antagonists are the Hand and they’re okay.  I like the whole mysterious ninja clan but I really wish for there to have been more to them and to their plan.  In fact, they do seem to have the weakest of storylines when compared to Frank and Elektra.

The Verdict: In the end, Marvel’s Daredevil Season 2 is great and definitely ups the ante for our hero.  There’s a lot to the story which does a great job of focusing on Daredevil and how this persona is effecting Matt Murdock.  We get awesome new additions in the form of the Punisher and Elektra and they add so much to the story.  Really the only point that most people agree could’ve been done better (which I agree) is the Hand who were not as memorable as they could’ve been.  However, the season was a great thrill ride and I thoroughly enjoyed it.  Marvel’s Daredevil Season 2 gets 5 out of 5.
