Top 10 TV Werewolves

Werewolves are people who are able to turn into wolves or half wolf/half human creatures. Werewolves come in all shapes, sizes, and colors.

Werewolves are in and there are a ton of werewolves throughout the television world and in this post we’re taking a look at ten of our favorites. Note: this list is not exclusively live action but will include cartoons and anime.

(1) Josh Levison (Being Human US)

Josh is a neurotic, socially awkward orderly at the Suffolk hospital who’s secretly a werewolf who left his family in order to protect them from his curse. Josh was portrayed by Sam Huntington.

(2) Ethan Chandler/Ethan Lawrence Talbot (Penny Dreadful)

Ethan’s an American sharpshooter who’s revealed to be a werewolf after experiencing several blackouts. Ethan portrayed by Josh Hartnett. There’s a lot that this series did right and having Ethan as the wolfman was one of them. Unfortunately though, his alter ego was seriously underutilized.

(3) Alcide Herveaux (True Blood)

Alcide is a full-blooded werewolf who owns a surveying company with his father and a member of the Long tooth pack. He was portrayed by Joe Manganiello. What makes Alcide standout amongst the cast is how much of a “good guy” he is compared to all the other assholes in the show. Characters like this either get killed off, written off, or turn bad.

(4) Daniel Osbourne/Oz (Buffy the Vampire Slayer)

Primarily known as Oz, he’s a member of the Scooby Gang and the guitarist of Dingoes Ate My Baby. He’s also a werewolf who was played by Seth Green. If you like cool werewolves and even cooler dudes, Oz is definitely the guy to alleviate the tension in the room.

(5) Little Red Riding Hood/Ruby (Once Upon a Time)

Ruby is one of the best characters in the Once Upon a Time universe. Ruby is of course, Little Red Riding Hood except with a twist. She’s also the big bad wolf with lycanthropy running throughout her lineage. However, she can prevent this or change back with her magical red cloak. Unfortunately, her character is criminally underutilized throughout the seven seasons of the series. Ruby is played by Meghan Ory.

(6) Peter Rumancek (Hemlock Grove)

Peter is a Romani werewolf who moves to Hemlock Grove with the ability to change at will. Peter was portrayed by Landon Liboiron. Although a good guy, Peter is constantly looked down upon from people of the outside world. Although a ying to Roman’s yang, his actions throughout the series have unfortunately left him a vargulf.

(7) Nina Pickering (Being Human)

Nina is a nurse who was changed into a werewolf by her boyfriend, George. Nina is played by Sinead Keenan. Nina was the odd one out of the group. She led a normal life and with George’s scratch, she’s thrust into the world of the supernatural. Although reserved in character, Nina has managed to show a strong willed side as well as an empathetic and caring side. She’s become a valued family and friend to the group.

(8) The Captain (Hellsing)

The Captain is a member of the Millennium forces and the Waffen-SS, operating as a bodyguard who’s a werewolf, able to transform at will and fight in either human or werewolf form.  If there was anyone that could match the presence of Alucard, it’s the Captain. Brutal in battle and operating without saying a word, the Captain has definitely made his mark in the series.

(9) Dyson Thornwood (Lost Girl)

Dyson is a homicide detective and Light Fae Wolf-Shifter able to transform into a wolf or partial. Dyson was played by Kris Holden-Ried. One of the most interesting characters both in terms of personality and in terms of backstory, Dyson was definitely a highlight of the series. Not to mention this is the second time Ried has played a werewolf.

(10) Elena Michaels (Bitten)

Elena is the first and only female werewolf who was bitten and turned by her lover Clayton Danvers. Elena isn’t the damsel troupe nor is she the overly masculine one either. She’s fighter but with depth and vulnerabilities. Elena is portrayed by Laura Vandervoort (one of my favorite actresses by the way).
