Television isn’t a stranger to shows concerning magic and fantasy. I’m continuing my expansion of posting content surrounding magic. This post is going to focus on magic users in television, both male and female. This post will include both animated and live action.
1. Gwen Tennyson (Ben 10)
Gwendolyn “Gwen” Tennyson is a Human/Anodite hybrid and the paternal cousin of Ben Tennyson. Gwen’s magical powers are revealed to be alien descent inherited from her grandmother, which allows her to freely manipulate and control mana as well as casting magical, mystical spells, and reciting spoken incantations.
2. Zatanna Zatara (Young Justice)
Zatanna has magical abilities which she channels by speaking backwards and also lay enchantments on objects. Zatanna has a wide variety of magical abilities including elemental manipulation, portal creation, transmutation, among other things.
3. Willow Rosenberg (Buffy the Vampire Slayer)
She has inherent magical abilities and begins to study witchcraft; as the series progresses, Willow becomes more sure of herself and her magical powers become significant if inconsistent. Her dependence on magic becomes so consuming that it develops into a dark force.
4. Wanda Venus Fairywinkle-Cosma (The Fairly Odd Parents)
The wife of Cosmo and one of Timmy Turner’s fairy godparents. Fairies have Fairy Magic which is the source of their abilities and includes flying, conjuring objects, shape-shifting, “poofing” (teleportation), and even bending the space-time continuum itself. Wanda is voiced by Susanne Blakeslee.
5. Cosmo (The Fairly Odd Parents)
Cosmo Julius Cosma is the husband of Wanda and one of Timmy Turner’s fairy godparents. Fairies have Fairy Magic which is the source of their abilities and includes flying, conjuring objects, shape-shifting, “poofing” (teleportation), and even bending the space-time continuum itself. Cosmo is voiced by Daran Norris.
6. Prue Halliwell (Charmed)
Prudence “Prue” Halliwell is a witch, the oldest Charmed One and the most powerful of the four sisters. Her magical powers include cast spells, brew potions, and scrying. She also has the ability to move objects with her mind as well as projecting herself in an astral form. She can also access The Power of Three, the collective power of the Charmed Ones. She’s played by Shannen Doherty.
7. Piper Halliwell (Charmed)
Piper is a witch and one of the Charmed Ones who can access The Power of Three. Like her sisters she has the ability to cast spells, divining, scry for missing objects and people, and brew potions. Her special abilities include manipulating molecules: slowing them down to the point where things freeze, and speeding them up to either induce heat or cause explosions. She’s played by Holly Marie Combs.
8. Harry Dresden (The Dresden Files)
Harry is Chicago’s only practicing professional wizard as well as consultant to Special Investigations for unusual circumstances. He’s one of the most powerful younger wizards. He’s portrayed by actor Paul Blackthorne.
9. Donna Gilchrist (Being Human)
Donna Gilchrist was a powerful witch who used dark magic to keep herself alive by eating the souls of the dead. Donna has knowledge over the mystical energies and supernatural forces that permeates the entire universe. Her abilities include channeling, spell casting, brewing potions, and divination.
10. Paige Winterbourne (Bitten)
She is the current leader of the North American Coven, is an ambitious and powerful witch. Very skilled in telekinesis and spellcasting, the distinctive feature of her is that of channeling other witches, being able to communicate telepathically also a mile away.
11. Mary Sibley (Salem)
With an unusually high aptitude for witchcraft, Mary is one of the most powerful witches in Salem. She became a witch after sacrificing her unborn baby to Satan in exchange for supernatural powers and arcane knowledge.
12. Paige Matthews (Charmed)
Paige is a witch/Whitelighter hybrid, the youngest and half-sister of the Charmed Ones and has all the basic abilities of a witch and a Whitelighter such as spell casting and potion brewing. She can access The Power of Three and has the most abilities of the sisters including healing, orbing, telekinetic orbing, and can generate Orb Shields. She’s played by Rose McGowan.
13. Phoebe Halliwell (Charmed)
Phoebe is a Charmed One and has the ability to access The Power of Three. She has all the basic abilities of a witch and her unique abilities also include premonition, empathy, levitation, and psychic reflection. She is portrayed by the lovely Alyssa Milano.
14. John Constantine (Arrowverse)
Constantine is an exorcist, demonologist and hedge warlock, self-styled as “master of the dark arts”. John is a master of the occult and mystic arts. John has accumulated vast knowledge and skill of magic, mysticism, and the supernatural. He is well-versed in various forms of sorcery, including dark magic. John knows words and phrases of multiple ancient languages, such as Latin, which he will usually chant while performing certain rituals or incantations.
15. Regina Mills/The Evil Queen (Once Upon a Time)
Regina is a witch and powerful magic user due to her training with the Dark One. She’s adept at potion brewing, casting spells, using blood magic, teleportation, summoning fireballs, and more.
16. Jeannie (I Dream of Jeannie)
Jeannie is a 2,000 year old genie and like any genie must grant the wish of those who’ve summoned her. She has near unlimited magical abilities though she cannot undo the spells of other genies. When she uses her magic she twinkles her nose. She is played by Barbara Eden.
17. Rumpelstiltskin/Mr. Gold (Once Upon a Time)
Being the Dark One, Gold has mastery over Dark Magic. His powers are so diverse that they seem limitless. His abilities include potion making, immortality, healing, teleportation, shapeshifting, foresight, elemental control, protection spells, conjuration, among other things.
18. Wicked Witch of the West/Zelena (Once Upon a Time)
Like her sister Regina, Zelena is a powerful witch having been trained by the Dark One as well. She’s adept at potion brewing, casting spells, using blood magic, teleportation, summoning fireballs, and with the aid of her wand can summon portals to different worlds.
19. Natsu Dragneel (Fairy Tail)
Natsu Dragneel is a Mage of the Fairy Tail Guild and a powerful magic user. His most prominent abilities are focused mainly on his Dragon Slayer Magic which is fire themed.
20. Yami Yugi/Pharoah Atem (Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters)
Atem controls the Millennium Puzzle which grants the owner the powers and knowledge of darkness and shadows, giving him incredible skill at strategy and allowing him to use ancient and powerful magic. That magic is mainly used to start and control Shadow Games. The Millennium Puzzle is the strongest and most powerful of all the Millennium Items. When Yugi activates its magic, the Eye of Wdjat glows on his forehead. Its most well-known power is Yugi switching his body and mind with the spirit of the Pharaoh.
