Upcoming Doom Movie Reportedly Going Straight to Digital Release

There’s been some news on the internet of a new Doom movie in the works.  The film will be under Universal Pictures and is said to being going straight to DVD or digital libraries such as Amazon Prime, Hulu, or Netflix.

As of now there’s talks and speculation but I’ve not found any concrete evidence of a director, release date, or casting aside from actress and singer Nina Bergman who tweeted on Tuesday she’s signed on to appear in the Universal Pictures film.

In 2005 there was a live action Doom movie starring Dwayne Johnson, Rosamund Pike, and Karl Urban.  The film was loosely based on the video game of the series of the same name and was panned by viewers and critics alike with an overwhelming number of negative reviews.

Now I know what you’re thinking.  Why would a movie studio try again with a reboot in a world that A) can’t seem to get video game movies right and B) is pretty hit-and-miss when it comes to reboots.  But I say, if Hollywood is thinking of taking another crack at a Doom movie then let them try.

The movie is said to be handled by Universal 1440 Entertainment which has produced some live-action and animated non-theatrical productions.  It’s responsible for movies such as Tremors 5: Bloodlines and Cult of Chucky are just a few to name (and admittedly bad movies).

First, what is Doom?  The series focuses on the exploits of an unnamed space marine under the UAC (Union Aerospace Corporation) who fights hordes of demons and the undead on Mars.  The series saw a highly successful reboot in 2016 know for its fast-paced, ultra-violent gameplay.

No plot details yet but hopefully the plot will stay closer to the source material.  Viewers should expect to see some badass waging war against the forces of Hell with tons of firepower.

Will The Rock have a part in the film?  I actually wouldn’t mind seeing him return for the reboot.
