Incredibles 2 is one of film’s most highly anticipated sequels. The first movie, 2004’s The Incredible, was not only a success but a great step for animated superhero movies. And it wasn’t surprising when Incredibles 2 was announced and the internet was on fire. Late 2017, a teaser trailer was released of Jack-Jack and a now a few months later we get an actual trailer.
For all those feminists who probably didn’t like the focus on Bob Parr/Mr. Incredible in the first movie, will probably love this movie because Bob takes a back seat and Helen Parr/Elastigirl will seemingly get more time to shine while her husband takes care of the home. Literally, a role reversal. Of course, this will bring up questions. In the first movie, Bob was dealing with living a domestic life, especially after remembering his glory days, and it looks like the story will pickup on this subplot again. And how will he and Helen’s relationship change while she’s going out saving the day and he’s at home.
At the end of the first movie, audiences were introduced to the Underminer. The movie will pickup right where the first movie ended, seemingly opening with a battle between the Incredibles and the Underminer. I hope that the villain isn’t just in the movie for this one scene and actually have something to do with events later on in the story. And, I’m interested to see what he is capable of; whether he has powers or advanced weaponry and equipment.
Great to see that the original characters are returning. Of course, the Parr family along with cryokinetic Lucius Best/Frozone and fashion designer Edna Mode. We get a look at a businessman named Winston Deavor who’s pushing to have superheroes back in spotlight. Who is he and what are his motivations? Of course, we have the villain, the Underminer. Dude looks badass and I can’t wait to see what the developers have done with the character.
The story looks to have a strong focus on the Parr family and that’s one of the things that made the first movie great. Hopefully, it explores both sides of the equation and not just Bob’s point of view. Will Helen get the big head from her superhero exploits or will it drain her being away from family?
In the end, this trailer is just awesome. It gives enough away to be interesting but not enough to spoil the movie. I love these characters and am glad that they’re getting the spotlight again with this sequel and I’m interested to see where their story goes.
