Should there be a Die Hard 6?

Like any movie critic, I have a decent eye for movies.  I like to see great ideas morph into movies which morph into franchises.  And there are a lot of great franchises out there worth watching (Planet of the Apes reboots) but there are also some pretty bad ones (Resident Evil).  However, there are those that come in strong but fade in their final installments (Pirates of the Caribbean).  The Die Hard series definitely is one of those series that is great up until its later film(s).  Me, personally, I really enjoyed Live Free or Die Hard.  However, A Good Day to Die Hard is without a doubt one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen and because of it, wouldn’t mind seeing the franchise end.  And honestly the thought of another sequel is cringe worthy.

There have been speculation of a sixth installment and I clapped my hand over my face and groaned.  As awesome as it would be to see an aging John McClane (played by Bruce Willis) take on some new form of terrorism, the formula has dried out.  Now, I’m not totally against the idea of another film, it’s just the aged Die Hard formula and the last movie left quite a bitter taste in my mouth.

Naturally, movies like this with an aging hero, similar in fashion to favorites such as Indiana Jones and Rocky Balboa, there is a certain passing of the torch and A Good Day to Die Hard had its opportunity but brilliantly miss the mark. So where can the next possible tragedy…Die Hard film go.

Something interesting that I came across is the possible title and synopsis for the sixth movie and I must admit that I’m fairly interested.  Not by idea but how it would executed. Looks like the title for the movie will Die Hard: Year One and the story basically follows a dying John McClane who is looking back on his life and the film will pick up with his time as a young police officer.  Rumored to return to the directing the movie is Len Wiseman who directed Live Free or Die Hard. It’s an interesting premise, being a prequel/sequel.

But does the Die Hard series deserve another shot? Bruce Willis is in age and he can’t do all the over-the-top stunts and action scenes. I could possibly see a reboot. Who could possible play a young John McClane.
