Oh yeah, we’re back on the scene and now we’re focusing on dragons. Dragons are legendary creatures, typically scaled or fire-spewing and with serpentine, reptilian or avian traits, that are feature in many myths and folklore around the world.
The three most well-known cultural traditions of dragons are European dragons, which are depicted as reptilian creatures with high intelligence, four legs, and a separate set of wings, and Chinese dragons, which are serpentine in appearance, with high intelligence, and are quadrupeds, and lastly the Lesser dragons which appear more animalistic. This post focuses on ten dragons in movies (animated and live action).
1. Bahamut SIN – Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children (2005)
Bahamut SIN is a form of Bahamut summoned by Kadaj’s Summon Materia to destroy the Meteorfall monument in Edge, as well as wreak havoc on the populace.
2. Diaval – Maleficent (2014)
Diaval is Maleficent’s servant and can transform into many creature’s albeit Maleficent’s will. However, when she is captured he turns into a dragon.
3. Toothless – How to Train Your Dragon (2010)
Toothless is the rare Night Fury, a dragon never seen by vikings due to its speed and camouflage in the night. He is Hiccup’s pet dragon and best friend. He is dark black that helps him blend into the night sky and is sleek and agile for speed.
4. Mushu – Mulan (1998)
He is an anthropomorphic red dragon, Mulan’s closest companion and her guardian spirit.
5. Haku – Spirited Away (2001)
Haku is Yubaba’s apprentice and second-in-command at the Bathhouse. As a River Spirit, he has the ability to transform into a beautiful, silver dragon, with a long, serpentine body, deer-like antlers, flowing whiskers, and a lupine face.
6. Dragon – Shrek (2001)
Dragon is a ruby-colored dragon who first appears while ferociously guarding the derelict castle which serves as Princess Fiona’s prison. She is Donkey’s love interest from the Shrek franchise.
7. Dragon – Sucker Puncher (2011)
This dragon was hunkered in its lair within a castle where Babydoll and the team infiltrate. After the team kill her baby, she goes berserk attacking everything and everyone.
8. Mizuki – 47 Ronin (2013)
During the climax of the movie, the sorceress Mizuki transforms into a dragon (Eastern-style) to battle Kai.
9. Vermithrax Pejorative – Dragonslayer (1981)
Vermithrax Pejorative is a 400-year-old androgynous dragon who terrorizes the sixth-century post-Roman kingdom called Urland.
10. Dragon – Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005)
A dragon that was used during the Triwizard Tournament which was used as the first task where the participants were charged with stealing one of its Golden Eggs.
11. Smaug – The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (2013)
Smaug was a fire drake of the Third Age, considered to be the last “great” dragon to exist in Middle-earth. He is a powerful, fearsome dragon who invaded the Dwarf kingdom of Erebor 150 years prior to the events described in the novel. Smaug is perhaps the most badass on this list as he’s intelligent, powerful, and ruthless.
12. King Ghidorah – Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster (1964)
King Ghidorah, also known as Monster Zero, is a giant three-headed golden dragon with two large wings, two tails, and no arms that is covered in golden scales and Godzilla’s arch-enemy.
13. Dragonstorm – Transformers: The Last Knight (2017)
Dragonstorm is a beastly three-headed dragon, mighty gestalt form of the legendary twelve Knights of Iacon who oppose the sorceress Quintessa.
14. Red Death – How to Train Your Dragon (2010)
The Red Death is a gigantic Stoker Class dragon species who does not actively hunt, but it has its food delivered to it by other dragons in the nest, acting similar to a brood parasite.
15. Male Dragon – Reign of Fire (2002)
The Male Dragon is a huge male dragon. He is the largest and the most intelligent and powerful of the dragons and the only male of them all.
16. Saphira – Eragon (2006)
Saphira is a female blue dragon who was bonded to Eragon Shadeslayer as her Dragon Rider.
17. Elliot – Pete’s Dragon (2016)
He is a large green dragon who can turn invisible and is a guardian of children who befriends a young orphan named Pete.
18. Bewilderbeast – How to Train Your Dragon 2 (2014)
The Bewilderbeast is a very large, spiky dragon with two big tusks protruding form the sides of its head and huge multiple wings. The Bewilderbeasts are the biggest of all dragon kinds known in Berk, and in addition to its icy breath they have the alpha’s ability to bend other dragons to their will.
19. Draco – Dragonheart (1996)
Draco is a brown and copper dragon, a good friend and companion of his knight friend Bowen, and one of the last if not the last of his species.
20. Gringott’s Dragon – Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 (2011)
Gringott’s Dragon was used to guard several high-security vaults, including the Lestrange Vault, at Gringotts Wizarding Bank.
