Thor: Ragnarok Trailer Review

Despite the series being a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe the Thor movies aren’t as stand out as say Iron Man or Captain America. Chris Hemsworth does do a fantastic job of portraying the mythological warrior as well as Tom Hiddleston portraying his trickster brother Loki.
Now let’s get into the nitty-gritty of what is shown in the trailer. Apparently Thor is captured after what looks like the destruction of Asgard. Now whether this is a premonition or what actually happens remains to be seen.

Thor ends up coming into confrontation with the all-powerful Hela portrayed by Cate Blanchett. Blanchett is a fantastic actress and her addition to the Thor cast is a great one. Her makeup and costume design look great and she looks sexy as hell. She always plays good guys ( prominent roles include The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit) so it would be interesting to see her play a villain. Hela then precedes to destroy Thor’s hammer after he throws it at her. Who is the Hela? Loki is a villain that does have layers to his character. Christopher Eccleston’s character Malekith was a poorly written character with little to no depth. Hopefully she has more backstory and personality.

Jeff Goldblum is apparently The Grandmaster, an Elder One who likes games and chance. Somehow he has captured Thor and probably with the help of Loki and now wants to put him in his arena. Which brings us to the next subject of the trailer. Thor must compete in the arena but has to face the Hulk. Thor’s realization of the Hulk the start off comedic however it becomes deadly serious when he realizes the Hulk is there to fight. How good will this battle be? In the first Avengers movie we get a brief fight between the two but nothing memorable. Throughout the comics Hulk and Thor have clashed numerous times whether they were rivals, friends, or enemies. So in this second attempt hopefully they both go all out. The only Hulk fight that was significant was pretty much the Hulk Buster vs Hulk fight in Avengers: Age of Ultron.
There are tons of other questions that need to be answered such as Loki’s role in both Hulk and Thor’s capture, the destruction of Asgard, and Hela’s release. Will Thor find Odin? And what is Doctor Strange’s role?
