One-Punch Man Rant

Anime has always had a very over-the-top quality to it. Humans are stronger, faster, and more durable than normal parameters would allow, seemingly for no reason lacking any sort of exposition.

The anime One-Punch Man definitely doesn’t deviate from this flawed formula. In most western fiction humans are limited to the strengths and limitations of humans but there are exceptions and even though follow realistic standards. So therefore when they overcome an obstacle it seems plausible granting a higher level of accomplishment. And no one man cannot be thrown into a brick wall at high velocity, crash through it, and survive. However, this is a norm in anime which can sometimes be really cool if giving a good reason or raise the suspension of disbelief. Normal humans are taking on monsters and villains that could easily kill them in normal circumstances.

In episode 8, “The Deep Sea King” where the Deep Sea King attacked and defeated a good amount of the heroes (including Stinger, Lightning Max, Puri-Puri Prisoner, Sonic, All Back-Man, Bunbunman, Jet Nice Guy, Mumen Rider, and Genos) didn’t sit well with me considering how all of the fallen heroes should have been dead yet they all survived an attack from a being with God-like strength and speed.

Even the episode 6, “The Terrifying City”, heroes Golden Ball and Spring Mustachio take on a monster called Kombu Infinity.  Golden Ball survives an attack by Kombu in which Golden Ball is literally drug through dozens of feet of concrete and gravel then slammed into the side of a building.  And somehow he survived.  This makes it hard to connect with these characters because there is no level of urgency, that they might die and have to go all out.

Don’t know if any others have ever gotten frustrated with this but I definitely have.  In the comment section below let us know if this troupe in One-Punch Man or for anime in general annoys you.
