Far Cry 4 | NarikChase Review

Far Cry 4 is 2014 an open world action-adventure first-person shooter video game developed by Ubisoft Montreal, published by Ubisoft, and released for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Microsoft Windows.  Serving as the fourth main installment in the Far Cry series, set in Kyrat, the story follows Ajay Ghale who is caught in a civil war between Kyrat’s Royal Army, controlled by tyrannical king Pagan Min, and a rebel movement called the Golden Path.

Positives:

  • Massive open-world
  • Great voice performances
  • Great score
  • Memorable characters
  • Good story
  • Great graphics
  • Good soundtrack

Negatives:

  • Repetitive gameplay
  • Lackluster story

Campaign: Like in previous installments Far Cry 4 features a very extensive campaign with a decent story and loads of playtime. The plot follows the main protagonist who, while carrying his mother’s ashes to her homeland, ends up being caught up in a war between the Golden Path rebels and a dictator named Pagan Min. Although not as compelling a story as Far Cry 3 it is very exciting. There is also this subplot where the Golden Path is divided in their approaches to handling the war and it does help to make the Golden Path rebels feel more realistic. There are some pretty memorable characters such as the eccentric Pagan Min, Sabal, Noore Najjar, Yuma Lau, and Amita. (4 out of 5)

Gameplay: Far Cry 4‘s gameplay mechanics do flow smoothly. The combat system isn’t unique but it does work well. The skill tree could’ve been done a hell of a lot better. There’s nothing unique about it nor is there any reason to really be invested in. There aren’t a lot of loading times (most of the time walking through doorways or cinematics) and when there are they don’t take long. There could’ve been a skip button for the cinematics.  It can be challenging especially when progressing throughout the story. (4 out of 5)

Graphics: The graphics look really good but there isn’t much improvement over the third installment. The map is more than impressive to look at and the level of design when including the wonderful shades and attention to detail is to be commended. The cinematics look really good though some of the more dialogue based ones can be slow paced. There are some moments where the graphics get choppy and these are particularly prominent while flying. (4 out of 5)

Score: The music is really good and definitely focuses on that wilderness factor. The voice performances are great. Troy Baker is great as Pagan Min. Great environmental sound effects that make the world feel lush. (4 out of 5)

Replay Value: This game’s replayability is definitely geared towards an extensive gameplay experience, especially with the numerous side quests available.  The race’s are pretty fun, hunting animals is pretty cool, assassinations are challenging, and engaging in the Arena is always entertaining.  The game’s extra game modes involve a map editor which is freaking awesome.  The multiplayer is leagues better than Far Cry 3 and the co-op as well as competitive modes keep it engaging. (5 out of 5)

The Verdict: In the end, Far Cry 4 is a great game although it doesn’t really improve much on its predecessor.  Despite some of the repetitive gameplay and a story that’s not really compelling, the game does excel with an immersive gaming experience, mass open world, great score, great characters, great graphics, great voice performances, and loads of hidden content.  Far Cry 4 gets 5 out of 5.  Fans of the third game will like this one, if not for the story and characters, then for the open world and gameplay.  Thanks for checking out the review.  In the comment section below let us know what your opinion and experience is of Far Cry 4.
