Episode 4 – A Block and a Hard Place

Welcome to another post where we’re going down the list of Minecraft: Story Mode episode.  A Block and a Hard Place (Episode 4) begins where The Last Place You Look (Episode 3) where the Formidi-Bomb explodes but merely splits the Witherstorm into three entities and Gabriel having no memory of who he is.  While the Witherstorms attacks the group take off on horses while Endermen appear and begin to attack the Witherstorm. While the creature is distracted the group manage to escape.  The group then discovers that Gabriel has lost all memory of himself and everyone else.  Ivor shows up offering his help, revealing that the Witherstorm is programmed to follow Gabriel, more specifically his amulet which Jesse reveals is in his possession. This explains why the Witherstorm has been seemingly following them.  They decide to use the Endermen to destroy the Witherstorms by luring the Witherstorms to Siren’s Fortress which is overrun with Endermen due to Jesse flooding the End.  Ivor reveals a failsafe he designed into the Command Block which he must travel to his secret laboratory. Axel and Magnus take the amulet so that the rest of the group to retrieve the super weapon. They stop to rest and eat when they are attacked by a witch and skeletons. Ivor holds them while the others escape and make it to the Far Lands. The group are forced to navigate the maze after a mob attack.  The group make it to Ivor’s laboratory and are separated after finding a secret passageway.  Upon searching Soren, Jesse, and Reuben find the enchanting book but Soren reveals that the Order of the Stone lied and used the Command Block to defeat the Ender Dragon.  Ivor gives Jesse an enchanted weapon to battle the Witherstorm.  The group reunites back at Soren’s Fortress but realize something is wrong when the Endermen aren’t attacking the Witherstorm.  Gabriel runs off with Ivor chasing after him, Soren runs away, and Magnus is battling one of the Witherstorms by himself.  Jesse, Axel, Reuben, Olivia, and Lukas entice the Endermen to attack the Witherstorms and while Lukas distracts the Witherstorm, Jesse, Axel, Reuben, and Olivia  build a machine that sends them right into the heart of the Witherstorm.  He attempts to destroy the Command Block but he is attacked by the Witherstorm, but manages to destroy it with the help of Reuben who dies in the process. Episode 4 – A Block and a Hard Place ends with the heroes dedicating a memorial to Reuben; Olivia, Axel, Jesse, and Petra are declared the new Order of the Stone.

The Verdict: In the end, Episode 4 – A Block and a Hard Place is an epic conclusion to the adventure of Jesse and his friends’ adventures to stop the world threatening Wither Storm.  It does end off on an emotional note, especially with the death of Reuben (the most awesome pig in video game history).  Episode 4 – A Block and a Hard Place gets 5 out of 5.
