NBA Jam: On Fire Edition is a 2010 basketball video game developed by EA Canada and published by EA Sports, released for Wii, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, iOS, OS X, Android, and Windows Phone.
Positives:
- Great soundtrack
- Fun gameplay
- Great online multiplayer
- Challenging AI
Negatives:
- Lacks content
Campaign: The Road Trip campaign is extensive and allows single player or co-op. It is what you’d think would be in a basketball game but the various teams do keep the game engaging and not repetitive. (3 out of 5)
Gameplay: The fact that teams are only two-on-two does emphasize the multiplayer but that’s the problem. It only emphasizes the multiplayer. It would’ve been nice to have five-on-five mode to help the game feel more based on teamwork for those who like to play alone. The gameplay can be challenging especially when it comes to other players or the AI. The slam dunks are outrageous and exciting. (3 out of 5)
Graphics: Visually the graphics are humorous. The photographic heads of the players and 3D models are work well. The cardboard audience looks okay but there could’ve been more interactions with them, though there are some that actually cheer. (3 out of 5)
Score: The music is definitely on point. It definitely feels like a basketball game. Several times I paused the game just to listen to the music. The voice performances are on point and the announcer definitely makes the game feel interactive. (3 out of 5)
Replay Value: The only replay value the game has is through its multiplayer. Only the most competitive of gamers or basketball fanatics will probably pick this up on a continuous basis like those grown nerds and young kids who sat in the parents’ homes beating Call of Duty down their own throats. There are some options to customize the gameplay but not nearly enough to make this a continuous experience. Really this is just a game to enjoy with friends or the occasional date whom you feel like humiliating after paying for such an expensive date and sex is off the table. Could’ve allowed players to create their own teams or uniform customization. (3 out of 5)
The Verdict: In the end, NBA Jam: On Fire Edition is a fantastic game though it does have its limitations. Despite lack of modes it does feature an extensive campaign, competitive gameplay, great score, and humorous visuals. NBA Jam: On Fire Edition gets 3 out of 5.
