DragonBall Z: Resurrection ‘F’ is a 2015 Japanese animated film directed by Tadayoshi Yamamuro, voice cast include Sean Schemmel, Christopher R. Sabat, Chris Ayres, Jason Douglas, and Ian Sinclair.  It serves as the nineteenth film in the DragonBall series and follows Goku (Schemmel), Vegeta (Sabat), and the Z fighters who must protect Earth from the resurrected Frieza (Ayres) and his army of soldiers.

Positives:

• Good voice performances
• Good characters
• Good story
• Good animation-style
• Good action

Negatives:

• Script could’ve been better

Plot:  Frieza’s making a return to Earth and his thirst for revenge can only be satisfied by killing the one who defeated him, Goku.  Pretty intense plot though hardly original.  Whis trains Goku and Vegeta to learn how to fight together.  It is very fast paced and highly entertaining.  (3 out of 5)

Characters:  Great cast of characters that include Goku, Vegeta, Beerus and Whis.  It was great having characters like Piccolo, Tien, and Krillin being actually relevant.  A18 was actually an awesome and memorable character that features the humor and comedy that many of the characters have.  Frieza is the main antagonist who seeks revenge against Goku.  Frieza is cool and his new abilities are cool and although he has presence he still lacks depth as a character.  Many of the animated films’ villains are flat and Frieza is no different.  Roshi was a horrible choice to add to the mix.  Especially considering he replaced 18, who is leagues better of a character. (3 out of 5)

Animation Style:  The animation style has a very vibrant look that is highly appealing.  The 3D effects mixed with the 2D animation actually works.  Frieza’s golden form looks cool but it also looks cheap, like the creator(s) couldn’t think of something better. (4 out of 5)

Score:  Norihito Sumitomo does a decent job with the score.  Nothing really memorable but it does help to set a certain tone.    Great voice performances by the cast.  Chris Ayers does a good job as Frieza but didn’t really care for him as the villain. (3 out of 5)

Writing:  There are some moments where the writing does seem…well stupid.  During the moment where the Z fighters are coming together to take on the new threat, Krillin leaves 18 to watch their daughter while he takes Master Roshi.  Why was Roshi even there?  At this point the Z fighters power levels are in the millions.  Roshi’s is still in the early thousand range.  And in fact, 18 is stronger than Krillin.  Who’s idea was to put Roshi in the story at all?  There is even another moment that sucks. Gohan is easily the strongest of the characters without Goku and Vegeta yet he didn’t even try to fight Frieza.  The argument could be made that he knew he wasn’t as strong as him but in the Frieza Saga a kid Gohan took on Frieza even though he was way more powerful than him.  And the final thing is why did the film focus so much on Goku and Vegeta working together but they never actually work together.  If Frieza was more powerful than Goku and Vegeta this could’ve been a great opportunity to showcase. (2 out of 5)

The Verdict:  In the end, DragonBall Z: Resurrection ‘F’ is a really good film but it does have problems with the script and it doesn’t really deviate from the animated film formula.  It does have great characters, great action, and a great animation style.  DragonBall Z: Resurrection ‘F’ gets 3 out of 5.  This is definitely a film worth checking out.
