The Boys Renewed For a Fourth Season

The release of the third season has become one of Amazon’s most viewed shows, smashing a variety of records for the streaming service. Since its debut the show has grown its audience by 234% since season one. It’s great seeing the original cast return, but the third season does introduce new characters; Laurie Holden as Crimson Countess, Nick Wechsler as Blue Hawk, and Supernatural‘s Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy.

Season 3 picks up after the events of season 2 while Butcher and the Boys are working with the Federal Bureau of Superhuman Affairs, megacorporation Vought has developed a formula to temporarily grant its users superpowers, and Homelander is trying to restore his reputation after his relationship with the Nazi, Stormfront.

The news comes just a week after the show’s third season premiered on June 3. Since its debut the series has seen massive growth, becoming one of the most well watched comic book shows shown on streaming services. The success of the series has garnered a spinoff series called The Boys Presents: Diabolical with another on the way.

“From our first conversation with Eric Kripke and the creative team about Season Three of The Boys, we knew the show was continuing to get even bolder—an impressive feat considering the wild success of the Emmy-nominated second season.”

Vernon Sanders, Amazon Studios’ head of global television

The series was adapted into a television series by Amazon Studios with its first season released in 2019. The series was developed by Eric Kripke, who created the acclaimed Supernatural (2005-2020) series, starring Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, and Erin Elair Moriarty.

The Boys is comic book series written by Garth Ennis and illustrated by Darick Robertson. The story follows a small CIA squad led by Billy Butcher who are charged with monitoring superheroes, most of which are corrupted by their celebrity status. Although originally published by the Wildstorm imprint, it was bought by Dynamite Entertainment.
