Live-Action ‘Ghost of Tsushima’ film in the works by Sony

Sony has got its juices flowing now with developing its game franchises into movie adaptations. Two of Sony’s upcoming films will have Tom Holland starring as Nathan Drake in its Uncharted adaptation and Oscar Isaac as Solid Snake in Metal Gear Solid. There’s also a TV adaptation of Naughty Dog’s “The Last of Us” for HBO featuring Game of Thrones‘ Bella Ramsey and The Mandalorian‘s Pedro Pascal. Now, Ghost of Tsushima will get a movie adaptation.

The game’s story follows samurai warrior Jin Sakai as he returns from near death to avenge his fallen comrades and free the island of Tsushima from its Mongol invaders. To succeed Sakai must abandon the traditions that have guided him as a samurai warrior. The game was developed by Sucker Punch Productions, released on the PS4 in July 2020. It was nominated as one of the best games of 2020 selling 6.5 million copies since its launch, selling 2.4 million worldwide in its first 3 days.

It’s been confirmed that John Wick director Chad Stahelski will be at the helm, producing it along with Alex Young and Jason Spitz from 87Eleven Entertainment, Asas Qizibash and Carter Swan from PlayStation Productions, and Peter Kang from Sucker Punch Productions. Stahelski directed the first three “John Wick” films, with a fourth movie in the works that’s slated to premiere on May 27, 2022. As of now there has been no release date or cast announced.
