Zelda | Casting Choices

Welcome to another edition of Casting Choices. In this post, we’re having a casting call for Princess Zelda in a live action The Legend of Zelda film or television series.
She appears in several incarnations throughout the series, generally as a member of Hyrule’s royal family, wielder of the Triforce of Wisdom, and an associate of the protagonist Link.

Olivia Thirlby has the chops to portray Zelda. She’s done more comedy, romance, and drama but she really stood out in the 2012 action film Dredd as Judge Anderson. She was strong yet feminine, compassionate and thoughtful. These qualities make for a strong Zelda, especially given how deep she can bring to the character emotionally. Thirlby not only has the talent for the job but she looks good as a blonde and could easily slip into the physical role. I can honestly see her as possibly either Hyrule Warriors Zelda or Twilight Princess.

Emilia Clarke would be a perfect Zelda. We’ve all watched Game of Thrones and Clarke portrays one of the shows most prominent characters, Daenerys Targaryen. Game of Thrones is the right fantasy set up for a Legend of Zelda live action and her role as queen would be great for Zelda. She has definitely grown as an actress and is able to be strong yet compassionate, qualities Zelda exemplifies. She’s also portrayed another strong female character, Sarah Connor, in the 2015 Terminator Genisys.

Again we have another actress who’ve played royalty in a television series. Rachel Skarsten plays Queen Elizabeth in the politically charged Reign television series. Her portrayal of the character wasn’t particularly likable, however the performance itself was charged. I haven’t seen much from her but it would be cool to see her in another royal setting but this time in the fantasy world of Hyrule. She’s shown herself capable of being confident, smart, and direct and that could work for Zelda. I can honestly see her as the Twilight Princess version.

The only one on this list to be featured in a video game movie is Imogen Poots, who featured in the 2014 Need for Speed. She’s a good actress who hasn’t quite hit the A-list but she does have a good amount of star power that could strengthen the character. She’s beautiful and could easily slip into the role. Her acting career is diverse which could make for a well-rounded character.
