1. Mario
Mario is without a doubt the face of video games. Since the early days of the Nintendo players have traveled through different lands with the legendary plumber to not only save the princess but bring the bad guys to justice. It’s safe to say that Mario’s introduction helped make video games as popular as they are today. He’s been in so many games it’s stupid. The face of Nintendo, he’s also become as timeless as Mickey Mouse, Sonic the Hedgehog, Mega Man, Bugs Bunny, Spider-Man, Batman, and Superman.
2. Luigi
Though somewhat still in his brother’s shadow, Luigi is starting to come into his own in media. Depicted has being clumsy and silly, Luigi has shown himself to be more physically nimble in his acrobatics. Hell, Luigi’s Mansion was pretty fun and he’s a complete beast in Super Smash Bros.
3. Princess Peach
Princess Peach, or Princess Toadstool, has always been at the center of the Mario series but it isn’t until later that she truly comes into her own. She’s the ruler of the Mushroom Kingdom and usually the object of Bowser’s obsessions. She really stepped into the spotlight with her roles in Super Mario Galaxy and even more in Super Smash Bros. where the innocent damsel-in-distress proves to be one of the most diverse and effective fighters.
4. Yoshi
Next to Luigi, Mario has had Yoshi in his corner as they fought together repeatedly. Yoshi is adorable and nearly as famous as Mario and Luigi himself; carrying the plumber throughout the Mushroom Kingdom and the numerous lands as they embark on saving the princess and stopping Bowser. Yoshi has also begun branching onto his own and hopefully we’ll see more Yoshi based games.
5. Wario
If you’re a fan of Mario, you’ll probably be a fan of Wario who’s Mario’s “evil” counterpart. Calling him evil is a bit of an overstatement. He’s more mischievous, gross, and greedy than anything. He’s like Bizarro is to Superman. Wario doesn’t take an crap from no one and does whatever he likes, no matter how crazy or disgusting.
6. King Bowser
No one has tested the legendary plumber than his rival King Bowser, or King Koopa. Bowser is the king of the Koopas, a race of anthropomorphic tortoise-like creatures. Bowser has a ton of attitude and he doesn’t mind throwing his bulk around to show it. Bowser has been annoying Mario since the beginning and continues to be a thorn in his side as well as with Luigi, Princess Peach, and Yoshi.
7. Donkey Kong
Although starting off as Mario’s rival, chunking barrels at the plumber after kidnapping the princess. But since his days as a “villain” Donkey Kong has truly came into his own, branching off into his own great series. Aside from clashing in Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros. we hope to see these two former rivals come together in a game as comrades.
8. Rosalina
Rosalina made her debut appearance in Super Mario Galaxy for the Wii, who resides in the Comet Observatory. With her star wand in hand, Rosalina has shown herself to be less damsel-in-distress and more mess-with-me-and-I’ll-kick-your-butt.
9. Boo
Boo has been a part of the Mario conglomerate since the beginning, having appeared in almost every Mario related title. Why’s Boo on this list? Cause it’s freaking awesome. All the times, I explored haunted castles, who was there to get in my way. Also, the whole design with their mouth open and tongue hanging out is pretty hilarious.
10. Daisy
Daisy is one of the best additions to the roster. She’s fun, energetic, and likable and isn’t afraid to be a little sassy. She’s tomboyish but still maintains a princess’ grace. And unlike Peach, doesn’t get kidnapped all the time.
