Wesley Snipes is Still Open to Blade 4 and the Marvel Cinematic Universe

When I sit down and think about the age of superhero movies (as many fans often do), I consider what movies have started this highly successful trend.  Superman, BatmanSpider-Man, X-Men are the most prominent but one trilogy that doesn’t get the credit it deserves is the Blade trilogy.  Snipes has stated on several occasions that he would like to reprise the role.

In 1998, Wesley Snipes broke the barrier when he came to the big screen as the vampire hunter Blade.  His stoic attitude and martial arts skills easily made the character a success, even to the point that the movie spawned two sequels (though the third movie sucked and Guillermo del Toro’s 2002’s Blade II is still the best), and a strong fan base that have wanted to see a possible fourth installment.

“I am very much open to all of the possibilities”, he told The Hollywood Reporter. “If Blade 4 comes along, that is a conversation we can have. And there are other characters in the Marvel universe that, if they want to invite me to play around with, I am with that too. I think the fans have a hunger for me to revision the Blade character, so that could limit where they could place me as another character in that universe”.

Marvel has done a pretty good job of bringing in the various characters in ways that make them actually fit in the world rather than just added for the sake of adding it.  It is pretty understandable why Blade hasn’t been added to the roster as in the established lore vampires aren’t really prominent.  Still, like any fans of the character (through the movies or comics) I’d like to see Marvel introduce the character.

If there is a fourth film, I’m interested in seeing what other characters would be introduced, whether it be in his stand alone series or as part of the MCU.  Personally, the best way to introduce the character to the MCU is probably like how they introduced Jessica Jones, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and Daredevil; a tv series.  True, the Blade live action series and animated series didn’t break much ground, but with how the studio introduced Ghost Rider in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. it wouldn’t be a bad way to go with Blade.

I love Wesley Snipes as Blade but I can also admit that they’re a ton of black comic book characters he can play within the MCU or not.  Some characters I’d like to see him as are Moon Knight, Spawn, Black Manta, Black Vulcan, Spectre, Black Goliath, M.A.N.T.I.S., Bishop, Cloak, Captain Universe, Hardware, John Stewart/Green Lantern, Shadowhawk, Steel, Blue Marvel, Batwing, Deathlok, Azrael, or Icon.

There have been several actors who’ve played multiple superhero/villain roles: Michael Keaton (Batman/Vulture), Chris Evans (Johnny Storm/Captain America), Halle Berry (Catwoman/Storm), Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool/Hal Jordan), Adewale Akinnuoye Agbaje (Killer Croc/Kurse), Ben Affleck (Daredevil/Batman), Idris Elba (Heimdall/Moreau), and Josh Brolin (Cable/Thanos).  Time will tell if Wesley Snipes gets his chance.
