Stephen King Wants a Law & Order Vampire Series!

Stephen King has graced the world with his brilliance in so many forms including books, graphic novels, movies, and even television shows.  He has come up with some really original (and quite brilliant) ideas and concepts.  But is his latest idea a bit of a stretch?

Law & Order is one of the longest running series with multiple spinoffs (similar to Star Trek and its multiple series) with the series focusing on a team in different divisions of the criminal justice system.

Now, Law & Order is no stranger to spinoffs.  There’s Special Victims Unit, Criminal Intent, Trial by Jury, LA, and True Crime.  But should the next iteration be a supernatural one?  Typically the law enforcement units focus on drugs, homicide, and special victims.  Would adding a vampire hunting unit to that list be any good?

King has stated that the series will follow our Law & Order crew hunting down vampires and for as interesting as the concept is, it does seem like an extreme change from the Law & Order format.

Personally, I would like see a show about a vampire unit comprised of vampires and humans that specialize in hunting vampires but I don’t want it to be a Law & Order show.  Law & Order has its moments where it’s reaching but what makes the show actually good is that most, if not all, of the concepts are actually real or set in realism.

A fan going by @XeroxCopycat came up with narration of a description of the division’s mission like in the traditional Law & Order opening sequence.

“In the criminal justice system, vampiric-based offenses are considered especially heinous. In New York City, the undead who investigate these vicious felonies are part of an immortal squadron known as the special vampire unit. These are their stories.”

King has the pull to actually make a series of his own so why make it set in the Law & Order continuity.  And also, the different series are set in the same continuity. They have crossovers and characters do interact over the different series.  So how would that play out with a vampire unit?

It seems to me that this would benefit better as its own series not to mention if it has the chops it wouldn’t need to be attached to the Law & Order name.  We’ve had a vampire cop show called Moonlight that sadly didn’t reach its potential as well as Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Grimm, and Angel. I would rather see a Stephen King’s Vampire Squad rather than a Law & Order: Vampire Squad.
