Sony Confirms Venom 2018 Spinoff Movie

EXCLUSIVE: Venom Gets Another Chance At Big Screen, As Well As Potentially Black Cat.

Now, Venom has made his first appearance in the Sam Raimi Spider-Man trilogy.  In the 2007 Spider-Man 3 the character Eddie Brock / Venom was portrayed by Topher Grace.  Not only was there criticism to the portrayal of Eddie Brock but the overall Venom character design.

Venom for the longest time was rumored to have his own solo movie, especially after what happened in Spider-Man 3.  Despite Sony still maintaining the rights to Spider-Man and the shaky ground that Sony has with Marvel Studios, Sony has decided to “move” the film forward.

Reports have stated that Sony has given Venom a 2018 release date on its schedule.  It is unclear if this film will be part of the existing Marvel Cinematic Universe continuity, or simply a Venom movie that does not connect with any of the other Spider-Man films. There is no director set for the film nor cast.

With the new Spider-Man: Homecoming film set to come out soon, how will a Venom movie spin-off fair in cinema now that the superhero trend has left it behind?
